As a healthcare provider, I would like to say that I am shocked by the low reviews and ratings this hospital has received. But I am not, because the OBGYN department treated me terribly. I had an OBGYN at Phelps Health. But, in my opinion, they miscalculated my due date by several weeks. As a result, I was forced to give birth to a 13 pound, 24 inches tall baby via emergency C section (major abdominal surgery) at another facility. My son is currently in the NICU at another hospital for intensive care. Again, I am of the opinion that I was not scheduled for an induction of my labor in time by my Phelps OBGYN. I was told to follow up with my Phelps OBGYN and did so immediately upon discharge. But, the Phelps OBGYN was on vacation and still no one at his office has been able to tell me when he will return. The issue with this? ... Issue #1 - My Phelps OBGYN and his "on call" colleagues are the only ones who can provide me with pain meds without me going to the ER again. The other facility does not have me as a regular patient, so I was sent home with 2 days'' worth of pain pills. The "on call" physician refused to write prescriptions for my Phelps OBGYN. So, I was forced to go to yet another facility for care that Phelps should have provided. Issue #2 - I needed a C section follow up appointment to examine my scar, and it had to be done within 14 days. But, no one could tell me when my Phelps OBGYN would be back in town, so no appointment was scheduled. I called and messaged the office several times (on a weekday). I detailed my discharge instructions and what I needed from the OBGYN team in the messages. The nurse intentionally responded to only part of my inquiry and continued to ignore my statements about being in pain. Mind you, I have no criminal or drug use history, so there was no need for the OBGYN team to be this dismissive about prescribing pain pills post major surgery. It is one thing to be off on a due date, it''s another to completely ignore your patient''s needs post C section when they are in a high level of pain. I deeply regret using Phelps Health for OBGYN medical services, and I would highly encourage others to save themselves a lot of stress. Just make the drive to places like Jefferson City, Columbia, St. Louis, and Lebanon instead. Phelps providers are smart but they are not God. A little humility goes a long way. The majority of people who utilize this hospital are either working class, middle class, and/or rural. They work hard for their money, and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. It is hurtful when the medical team in any department does not treat them like a human being. Hopefully the service providers at Phelps Health will do better in the future. But, from the numerous "1 star" reviews I am reading, I am not sure when or if that will be happening. Until then, the best way to have peace of mind is to just avoid Phelps and spend your money elsewhere. One, two, or three people doing this will not make a difference to Phelps. But eventually, when hundreds and thousands of people stop going to this hospital that will send more of a message than posting 1-star reviews on Google. Healthcare is a business at the end of the day. Everybody answers to somebody, and money talks. YOU HAVE THE POWER to be your own advocate by taking your money to a facility that will appreciate and listen to you.
Read moreIf you value your life don’t go to this hospital. I’ve never seen worse health care in all my life… spotted multiple cockroaches in a place where infection should be controlled. Also the staff just cares about the bottom dollar and getting you out asap Phelps is the absolute worst!
Late posting but to let you know, try avoiding this hospital if you can. Especially E.R., better alternative @NYPH which is close by, not much better but only other hospital in vicinity of Flushing.
If I could give them negative numbers I would! Do not take your loved ones to this hospital!
