Our family had an in person tour with Orangeburg Memory care and Orangeburg gave us a good feeling and was more affordable than Stratford. Same problem with "Need/care" differences.

The people at Orangeburg Memory Care were very friendly, and it was very clean. We liked the way they presented themselves, so that's why we chose them for my brother-in-law. The cost was a little more affordable than others. The staff members are very friendly, and they seem to be very caring. They provide three meals a day. My brother-in-law can get a snack whenever he wants one. The rooms are large. He has a room by himself with his own bathroom, which was another attractive thing about the place. I briefly met their activities director, who seems very engaged with the residents. They have activities; although, he doesn't like to do any of them. We haven't had any problems at all with them.

Read moreMy tour of Orangeburg Memory Care was a good experience. It was very pleasant. The place was very large. There were some really lovely rooms, however, for somebody with dementia, I could see it being a bit confusing because it's almost a little too large.

All of the staff are very friendly and attentive. I didn’t feel, however, that the staff integrated my family member into the community very well. I felt a little more attention could have been given to her to help her understand how she could thrive in the community. The facility is kept in excellent condition. The staff was unobtrusive when cleaning and sensitive to resident privacy. Communication with the family is an area in which Orangeburg could improve. While everyone was responsive to questions, I felt they could have been more proactive in communicating with me about my family member's health. Also, change the menu at once! I didn’t feel the food options at Orangeburg were appealing in quality or presentation. The food was extremely basic, without much flavor, and cheap. Though the staff encouraged my family member to eat, it didn’t occur to them to ask her what she would eat when she stopped eating. And, to be fair, I didn’t pick up on that until a month after she arrived. Once I bought food she would eat, she started eating a little better. Overall, even with the areas in which I feel they need improvement, I would recommend Orangeburg to anyone seeking Memory Care.

We toured Orangeburg Memory Care. I liked that it just focused on memory care. The rooms were very nice and very clean. They had friendly staff. It had an outside walkway that went all the way around the building safely without the residents getting lost. The person who gave me the tour was really friendly. She knew what she was talking about and told us everything we needed to know right off the bat. It was well done. They had an activities room. They were actually having somebody playing a piano and everybody was singing along.
