We toured MorningStar Senior Living at Golden Ridge. The gentleman (who is probably in his early 20s) did a very good job. He got some experience in caring for family members. Usually, the younger generation doesn't understand the older generation. He was very polite and very well-versed. It is a five-star community. It's very new with all the modern amenities. Everything is under one roof. The staff was very nice. We walked around and looked at a lot of the people that work in various areas like the arts and crafts or somebody that works in the garden area. We had the opportunity to talk to them. It's in a newer area and it's 35 or 40 years newer, so it's built on a modern basis versus the other place that is keeping up with it. It was an excellent tour, and it was great. However, what we were looking for specifically was a community that would accept ALTEC if my parents ran out of money, and MorningStar did not. They are a private pay-only community. It's as nice as any of the other private pay communities that we've gone to, it's just my parents won't be able to afford that. They will run out of money before they pass on because my mom is in really good shape. Nevertheless, the staff were wonderful. They're amazing.

We toured MorningStar at Golden Ridge. It was excellent and luxurios as well. The independent living is townhomes. It's all 2-bedroom with a garage. The assisted living is an indoor apartment style, which is nice. The place is very nice, well-kept, and clean. The staff is awesome. The tour was great. They have on-staff trainers, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and two separate fitness rooms. Their movie theater is nice, and the 2-story main building is a wide, open area, and is clean and bright. The eating area is restaurant-style. The food smelled awesome. We did not taste it, but I would give it a five-star just from the presentation and aroma. If they offered a 1-bedroom with or without a carport, that would be our number one choice. It is unfortunate because we would have just signed my father-in-law for that because it is that nice. They put a lot of effort into the facility. I would call it luxury. It is grand and the cost is reasonable.

This is the first place that we looked at, so we were surprised at how many people were actively moving about and being independent. It just seemed like a pretty vibrant community. We had two people during the tour, so they were both good. The food looked good, but we didn't try any. They had different classes that they could do, like exercise classes, card games, games that they would play, movie nights, and bingo. It seemed like they had lots of different things.

My parents have complained about the food. The quality of the food isn't very good. They have several different areas within their building where they can enjoy themselves. They have a salon, a gym, a pool, a spa, a restaurant, a library, a café, and a recreation center area. They were within our budget, but I felt like they were a little more expensive than other places.

It was actually my first choice of the properties we toured at the time, but Mom did not like the open closet/walkway into bathroom. The tour was great, but it was too much for her and she had to keep stopping to rest, giving her the impression she would not be able to maneuver the hallways. Then someone at church told her it was a bad neighborhood, and that was the last straw for her.
