3 stars if we didn''t experience their initial attempt at discharge. Because of that experience we would rate as 1-1.5 stars. They discriminated against my sister. It caused our family a lot of stress. Backstory. Within less than 24 hours after she arrived contract doctor and nursing supervisor tried to have her sent, by ambulance, to the hospital for a psych commitment. Their reasoning was because she "threw herself on the floor" and "kept screaming in the night." When I asked the relative what was going on she said she needed assistance with toileting. No-one responded so she yelled louder for help. She is bedridden and is unable to walk. When staff didn''t come she got out of bed to go to the toilet on her own and fell. The facility did not want to report it as a fall as it would lower their facility score on falls. The staff called an ambulance and police who both arrived and left after reading the legal guardianship paperwork and telling the facility administrator that they could not discharge my sister without my consent. The contract doctor told me that since she had a "mental illness she wouldn''t be able to do the exercises for PT and OT." They were discriminating against her because she has a mental health diagnosis that she was being treated for yet she was in mentally stable condition. Needless to say I got the assistance of Fairfax County Longterm Ombudsman who was on my cell phone when I reached the facility and she helped me to file an appeal. My sister stayed much to the chagrin of the staff. After advocating that their doctor order urinalysis for UTI. She tested positive. It took 3 days for the labs to be written and urine to be collected. Meanwhile staff thought she was crazy because she was requesting to use the toilet and then wouldn''t urinate. No-one thought this could be a medical issue and they are all medical professionals!! Anyway, my relative showed them that she could do the exercises and that her behavior was not problematic. My relative stayed at Manorcare of Alexandria for almost a month. Unfortunately she needed to be hospitalized for sepsis because the facility doctor left the foley in longer than he should have and she developed a severe UTI with high temperature. Both my relative and I told the facility we wanted the foley taken out sooner than later but that didn''t happen due to her having a sacrum wound. On a side note I did like the administrator who I was able to reason with and who did her best to address issues with staff. Also, the wound nurse, social worker and physical therapists were good, as was the dietician. It was nursing staff and the doctor who were sometimes dismissive and resistant to working with my relative and us, legal guardians. The doctor came around but a few of the nursing supervisory staff did not. Sally seemed mostly angry, perhaps overworked. Mr. Abdul walked away while I was talking with him. An observer commented on how rude that was. Also, the medical regional director was very nasty, sarcastic and tried to threaten me with my sister''s removal after the staff called the police. We decided to have our relative discharged to another facility after her hospital discharge. Unfortunately that facility had a resident who contracted Covid on the 2nd day my relative was there! We were thinking perhaps she could return to Manorcare. Not because we liked the facility but because they didn''t have Covid there and access to visiting wouldn''t be a problem. It was the devil we knew rather than the devil we didn''t know, but Manorcare said they wouldn''t accept her back. The bottom line is that none of these Medicaid funded facilities are good or even great. It''s a painful process for family members having to send loved ones to places that are understaffed, don''t pay enough attention to medical issues, patients and families real concerns and health complaints are discredited by medical staff. From the onset Manorcare had our loved one feel unwanted because she had a mental health disability not sure if her feelings changed on being there.

Both of my parents live in this facility and it has been a really tough experience. The care is very hit and miss. Some aids are fantastic and others just don''t want to do their jobs. My mom has mobility issues, but is continent and relies on a bedpan for toileting. My mom has been left to wait for over 30 minutes on multiple occasions to try to use the bed pan. When she can''t hold it any longer and wets herself, she has been left to sit in urine soaked sheets for hours. Numerous times the nurses have brought her the wrong medication or forgotten to bring certain medications. My mom and dad have both had occasions where they were in crisis and needed to be transported by ambulance to the hospital and both have had to wait for hours to get the ambulance to bring them. One time my father''s BP dipped very low after having heart surgery and they kept him waiting for over 5 hours for an ambulance. It turned out he had DVTs in both legs and ended up in intensive care for a week. Please, if you love your family member, try to find an alternative care facility.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS FACILITY! My mother was supposed to go to this facility for rehab. She is 92 but suffers from weakened muscles due to 4 months of shingles and it''s effects. She was admitted on Thursday (last week) and I checked her out on Saturday. The aides treated her as if she were senile, but she''s just very hard of hearing. Staff would not answer her questions re meds and tests that were being done. Friday night she took a spill because no one would come help her to the bathroom so she went on her own about midnight. Rather than help her, they berated her as she laid on the floor and pulled her up by her arms. We know that IS NOT how you pick up a frail, elderly person. The aides clearly are not properly trained, although all the professional staff was excellent AND compassionate. If you don''t have compassion you shouldn''t work in elderly healthcare. I''m ready to make a formal complaint!

PLEASE BE WARNED. They will put a DIAPER ON YOUR LOVED ONE AND LEAVE THEM. My mon died while she was only there for Wound care and therapy. SHE DIED SEVEN DAYS AFTER ENTERING THE FACILITY. My Mom was a nurse who served this community for years, working for members of congress. She was well received and loved by all of her patients. When I asked how my mom went from wound care to Dead neither the nurse who was caring for her or the Asian Doctor on staff had an answer. The both literally just stared at me not saying a word. They are also refusing to release her medical records. REFUSING TO RELEASE HER MEDICAL RECORDS. WHY????????????????????????????????????????????
