Sunrise at Mount Vernon: Senior Living in Alexandria
Situated in a quiet suburban neighborhood in historic Alexandria, Sunrise at Mount Vernon offers assisted living and memory care in a serene, peaceful setting. Part of what makes this community so special is its location. It’s just down the road from Little Hunting Creek and close to Huntley Meadows Park and Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve on the Potomac for tranquil nature getaways. It’s also near all the incredible attractions of Alexandria and the nation’s capital, including the National Air & Space Museum, the National Gallery, the Sherwood Library, and the Tanger Outlets at National Harbor for shopping trips. And, highly regarded medical care is less than a minute away at INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital.
There’s lots to do on-site, too. Residents enjoy sitting on the spacious outdoor porch, gathering in the 24-hour Bistro for coffee and snacks, playing a game of pool in the billiards room and playing with Cooper, the resident rescue dog. A full events calendar brings opportunities for physical fitness, mental stimulation and social connection; seniors here take art classes, join the Go4Life Walking Club and attend wine bar socials.
Exceptional Care at Sunrise at Mount Vernon
The compassionate staff at Sunrise at Mount Vernon understands that each resident is unique and brings an entire lifetime of experience, stories and lifestyle preferences. That’s why each assisted living senior sits down with Designated Care Managers before move-in to express their needs and devise a care plan. That will include voicing dietary requirements and making choices for leisure activities, plus the level of support they need with activities of daily living (ADLs) like continence, bathing, grooming and mobility.
For older adults with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, Sunrise’s award-winning Reminiscence Memory Care Program provides secure outdoor spaces, easy-to-navigate common areas and an exclusive activities calendar that nurtures mind, body and spirit. In addition, every memory care resident has a designated Life Enrichment Manager, a professional trained in Alzheimer’s Association-recognized techniques that have shown promise in slowing cognitive decline.
Sunrise at Mount Vernon also offers short-term stays and maintains relationships with trusted hospice care providers for painless transitions.

Sunrise at Mount Vernon did an outstanding job caring for my mother during her final year of life. She lived there from December 21, 2022 through January 10, 2024. The staff was very responsive to my mother''s needs, and the quality and variety of activities available to Sunrise residents is top notch. All the staff were professional, competent, service oriented, friendly, and a pleasure to interact with. After my mother died Sunrise staff were extremely supportive and helpful to me with taking care of all necessary business. I hope all the staff of Sunrise at Mount Vernon have the opportunity to read this review and receive my personal Thank You! for your wonderful, caring attention afforded to my mom, Margaret "Peggy" Chaison. Your care team is top notch and second to none. Robert A. Cabañas Little Egg Harbor, NJ

It's a very caring community. I'm really most impressed with the fact that it truly is a community. The residents all seem to like one another and care about one another. They enjoy themselves. And the staff is very caring. They have their issues with short-staffing like any senior living place right now, but it's not for lack of caring. I love the facility. It feels very homey, and they keep it very clean. You also don't smell any odors. My mom was resistant to moving at first, but she has adjusted very well in a short period of time, which I attribute to their care team and their understanding of senior living.
Read moreWe do understand that staffing shortages are an issue for everyone, however they do need to hire more workers. We were never told they were short staffed until our loved ones moved in. The things that were promised to our loved ones have not been happening so it is just not meeting the expectations....

Read moreMy parent loves sunrise at mount vernon, they only wish that activities was more involved, not a coloring book or watching a movie, the activities director is so involved in her phone and obviously her personal life, very disappointed in her.
