I am sure Paul Spring is a fine retirement community but it was not our experience with my Mother-in-Law. We were quoted a price for a studio apartment and days before she was to move in and sign the formal lease the price was increased $30K/yr. A nearly 40% increase in cost for someone on a fixed income. We were told a medical leveling was required but no details as to this "leveling" process. We asked multiple times and all we were told was that the medical team would do it and it was a scoring system. However, we were required to pay funds before the assessment. Funds which were told would be refunded if we did not qualify. My Mother-in-Law lived with us for 4 months after transferring from another assisted living in New England where she was fully able to provide all her ADLs and medicines. We moved her to Virginia to be closer to her daughter and me. I am a physician and I understand the Medicare processes. As we went to sign the lease, we were not allowed to take the studio as it was originally offered. We were told by the interim administrator/head nurse that the State, the Department of Social Services, would not allow anyone to take their own medicines who could not name them all, list the indications, the dosages, and the route of administration all from memory (no list or iPhone could be used to assist). While this is not specifically in the regulations, we agreed that based on this site requirement, she did not qualify for the level of care we requested. This was the very same level of care that was allowed at the prior Assisted Living Facility. We were then told we would not receive our paid funds back. I sent a fax and letter to the CEO of the company with no response over two weeks. I called the number listed on the web site, no person ever answered, we left a name and a number as a message at multiple offices. Over two weeks later, we have not yet received a return phone call! I''m sure Paul Spring is a fine retirement community and Retirement Unlimited Incorporate (RUI) is a fine organization but not for us in our specific situation. MFracasso

I took a tour of the place with my mother when considering getting my grandmother into a nice place and this place blew me away! Very beautiful, and the staff were so welcoming and helpful. The fact that the food was great was just a bonus!
