Freedom Village at Brandywine was beautifully set up. I just loved all the colors and the extra things that they've done in there. The area where the pool table was had nice dark green walls, like you would expect in a pool hall with mahogany chairs. They'd also cleverly use the square footage for rooms to make them seem larger than they were. The person who showed me around was very nice and very accommodating. The place is smaller and doesn't have perhaps as many activities, but it was nice and the people looked very happy there. Parking is a little bit of a problem, but it's well situated. I think they have plans to fix the parking. They've got some other land they can use there, but it's surrounded by trees and everything and I just find it very attractive. I only interacted really with one staff, although several people said hi in the hallways. I love what they had done. I love the colors, I love the layout, and I love how they made the rooms look larger. They had different dining rooms with different names on them, and they had country cottage-type decorations and people could pick where they wanted to go. They did a fantastic job. The appearance was fantastic and everybody was friendly. It's smaller than some, so that's a bit of an issue. If you like places with a lot of people, you're not going to find it there. They only had a few vacancies there. It wasn't exactly for me, but I would still put it at the very top. I was there right before dinnertime, so people were getting ready to go to dinner. The staff told me that people had the option. If they didn't want to eat in the dining room, they could always pick up things like soup, salad, and sandwiches. The dining rooms were very attractive. They had a library, an exercise area, a pool table, some gathering rooms with tables to do other things, a hair salon, and the standard stuff. What impressed me was how they styled everything with the colors and the furniture that they used. It was just warm and inviting and made you feel that you were in a lovely country home. It wasn't at all institutional. If I was looking for something smaller, it would certainly be high on my list.

My sister was at Freedom Village at Brandywine. It was fine every time we went and saw her. We saw her at different times, and every time we went, she was on point. They had her fixed up nicely. She wasn't interested in too many activities, but they had therapy and stuff. She had a nice room. It was furnished nicely. It was clean. The people came in the morning and cleaned it. The bathroom was clean, too. The staff was nice. For any information we needed, they would get it for us, or the doctor would come in and explain things to us.

We weren't overly enthused about Freedom Village at Brandywine. They just kind of had all the residents sitting in one room watching television. It may have just been the time that we got there, but they didn't seem to have as many activities for the residents as some of the other facilities had. It gave me more of a nursing home feel than a senior living feel. The apartments are dated and small.

My husband and I moved to IL at Freedom Village during the pandemic. the staff was so helpful as we navigated the real estate difficulties and made our move easy and smooth. We love the activities - I am able to teach classes here as I did elsewhere. My husband played the piano in the atrium in the evenings for his pleasure and others. Recently when my husband had many medical issues, the staff was great- calling the ambulance, transitioning him from the hospital to rehab and ultimately skilled care. The staff could always report on his condition and they did everything to keep him engaged as his health declined. The entire staff spoke with my and my sons, answered all our concerns during this very difficult period and used our minds. We could never have managed this in our home, I am here, surrounded my friends and staff as I start this new chapter of my life. Best decision we ever made. .
