We did not need a place that takes Medicaid, but I would say that the majority of the residents there were Medicaid funded. They all looked like they were drugged, heads down, blank stares. The facility was dark, and the rooms had two little beds with very thin mattresses. It was just a dismal place. The residents were sitting in hard little plastic chairs like what they have at schools. There were no couches or comfortable places to sit. Not one person was walking around. I would not have put my loved one there.

A real dump. While looking for a good place to house my dad with dementia, I had to temporarily have him stay at Emerald Ridge. Overcrowded and not enough staff. Filthy conditions and smells. The cook staff is too lazy to puree the food. I mean really, who gives spaghetti and meatballs to dementia patients that are unable to use a fork and knife? The staff at Emerald Ridge, that''s who. When I finally found a better facility, the administration staff at Emerald Ridge refused to release my dad''s medical records.

I spent one week there recently after 3 major lung surgeries. It says skilled nursing, but that''s not true. I received minimal care, with the exception of the physical and occupational therapists. Couldn''t get my meds on time and had no help bathing or dressing. I finally had a fall on a transport van on my way to a doctor''s appointment and wasn''t even checked for injury after returning to the facility. The next morning, my chest tube fell out and I was transported back to the hospital, never to return to that place, except to collect my belongings. I never got my shoes back, but it was a small price to pay. God bless the people who have to live there that have no choice and no voice. If you love someone who is a patient there, PLEASE keep a close check on them!
