Edgewood Centre (The)

My mother was Recently admitted for rehab to Edgewood and on my first visit there I was very impressed with the staff and how Warm and welcoming they were.

Most of the staff are really caring and helpful. Even though the nursing staff and assistants are always busy, a lot of them try to make the needed time for the patients. Biggest downside is that they serve your standard, run-of-the-mill nursing home food.

I actually was here for an interview and with my experience working over 12 years in healthcare in a multitude of settings this is the first nursing home/long-term care facility that I have ever personally toured that TRULY appeared clean, and residents all were cleaned and up and cared for. Edgewood seems to offer a nice array of activities that the residents can participate in and enjoy year round. I’m really impressed with the several sun rooms each wing of the facility had along with the amount of outdoor space for the residents to utilize in the warmer months. The few staff members that I did meet were professional and friendly as well. While I’ve never step foot in Edgewood prior to this visit I can speak on my past experience in several other facilities in the same line of work; and I feel like I can say with confidence that this place is clean and the residents are cared for. The number one tell tale sign that any seasoned healthcare professional will tell you when interviewing or touring for your family member placement in any long term care facility is; is to pay attention to how the facility SMELLS; does it smell like a “nursing home” does it smell like a bathroom? If the answer to both of those is no, in MY experience in working in several settings (some that did and some that did NOT have those “smells”) then it’s a place where they are CLEAN and the residents are CARED FOR PROPERLY; Edgewood from my tour today fits that bill; smelled clean, and almost every resident I saw was up and dressed! From my impression today my opinion would be yes I would recommend Edgewood to those looking for either employment OR potentially a place for their loved one to receive the nursing care they may need.
