The thing I liked about Brookdale West Ashley was the size of the facility and the available nurses. The staff was very attentive to the residents. The rooms were very large and clean. They were very adaptable to the residents. It was very homey. Everybody was happy, moving around and busy. When I went there, they didn't have any activity going on, but the residents were moving around. They were glad to see me. They were talking. They were just at peace with themselves. The way they were located was right around the corner from a lot of different shopping areas. There was a strip mall not too far from it. The area was very nice, not too far away from anything. They showed me the food menu and the activity menu. They had something planned every day and the residents could see what was being fed to them every day and what activity they had planned for the upcoming weeks. Everything was already published. The dining area was quaint. It wasn't a big place, but it was big enough for the residents they had there. They told me the schedule and how they run the breakfast menu for the different residents. I didn't see too many amenities, but they said they do hair for the ladies and they had barber for the men. Everything was clean.

Read moreBrookdale West Ashley was nice and clean, but it was just a smaller and older facility. The rooms did not seem as spacious, but it was fine. The people seemed very caring and very, very pleasant. The staff who assisted us during the tour was a nice lady.

The only complaint I would voice is the confusion that exists between those who wish to use in-house "SC House calls group" and those who have an established primary care doctor and wish to continue with their PCP. We were asked to sign numerous papers for lots of different things(overwhelming at the time) and two related to health care. One to authorize for SC house calls group to see my mother, we thought and it was confirmed by the staff, that was if her physician could not be reached. SC house calls did not understand that was our wish and took over her care without communication with us. I finally contacted them to find out why my Mother's meds were changed, etc. The facility met with us, clarified, apologized, and have fixed the problem to our satisfaction. My advice would be to be very clear what care you want for your family member and make sure the information has been shared with all providers. Except for that problem, the transition has been very good and the staff is very caring.
Read moreAssisted living has left a bad taste in my mouth. THEY ARE LIERS AND I DONT TRUST THEM. .I don't recommend assisted living unless you can check on them personally every day or every other day... skilled nursing like [name removed] is the way to go but not to many people can afford that
PLEASE do not recommend or endorse this facility. Brookdale was absolutely horrid. We picked this community, because the tour made everything sound great. Big bed room. Close to center of activity tables. It was smaller, and more quaint. The workers there TRULY do not give a [word removed]
