Their cafeteria also looked clean and well-kept. They had an activity room where they did some physical therapy and stuff like that, and they all looked very organized. They had an outdoor area where people could go out and enjoy the outdoors. It was nice.

We wanted one that had an actual door to the bedroom, and this was just more like an alcove. Everyone was friendly. The food was not offered, but one of the residents said it was very good. The food is restaurant-style. They have tables, and you can order off a menu, so that was kind of nice. I think they had a library.

We toured Brookdale North Austin. The facility is not as pretty, but their staff makes up for it. The rooms were clean. We didn't try food, but everything on the menu was good. We liked what we saw. They have activities. We liked it because my dad could have his own apartment. We can help him furnish it, and it was affordable. It was a nice place. It was dated, but it was still clean and very nice. They said they are going to update it.

The staff member at Brookdale North Austin was very, very helpful. It was Britney that I was talking to, she helped me with all kinds of information. I was concerned with the price and how I was going to work with Medicare, and she was telling me how things work out. She went through the process of how the system works and gave me other information. Her primary focus was to make sure that my mom received the best care whether we chose her facility or not. The place was clean and friendly, the staff was engaging with the clients regularly, and they knew everybody's name. The rooms and all the common areas were very clean. I felt like my mother would be safe there. The facility itself is older, but they're taking care of it.

Brookdale North Austin seemed older, and it seemed like it's more of a nursing home kind of a place, if you will. It didn't seem like it wasn't as nice as the other places we saw. It was older inside and out and it just didn't have the appeal. There wasn't nearly as much activity for the people and not as many things to do. There weren't many people out and about like they were at the other places. There were a lot more people in the halls and the dining room at the other places than at Brookdale. The lady that assisted us was really good, we liked her and she did a good job. She was honest, she was open to us, she gave us a discount. They were the cheapest of those we toured. The lady that went over everything was good, and that's the positive side. The negative side is that she was like the manager or director, we were supposed to meet with the assisted director but she wasn't there. So we got put with the director, which ended up being good for us. But we didn't get to meet with the person we were supposed to meet with. We had a meal onsite and it was good, we liked it. They had a TV room to watch TV, they have a little game room, and an area where they play games, but it was very small. There were a few things to do, but like one thing a day, whereas others had multiple like two things a day. So it was more limited in the activities. I didn't like them very much for the size of the rooms, for the look of the place, although it wasn't that bad. Some of the rooms seemed more dated and some of the walls needed more paint. I'd suggest they do a little more upgrades and maybe bigger rooms.
