While at this facility my mother moved forward in her wheel chair. She was unattended not strapped in fell out of the chair and ended up braking her neck. She at that time was 90 years old. The explaination was under staffing. My experience made me very concern for her well being. I was told I couldn''t ask any questions about her care even though I was her daughter, I was not her health care proxy. A incompetent individual with a second grade IQ was in charge of her. I lived approximately 65 miles away once I visited this facility it was clearly evident not enough staff. Dirty depends, lack of drink and food. I wouldn''t leave my dead rat in there care. I spent traveling 120 miles round trip for 8 weeks. My only regret is I couldn''t move her.

We will not return again, and further, we want to share our experience with the corporate side of this nursing facility . She arrived at 2 pm. No one from Vero/Maple St Nsg/Rehab Care did a med check with her by 10pm, so they had not noticed some med orders weren’t transferred from Baystate. She went to bed without all her prescribed meds. They had 8 hours to get it done, but after 10pm I guess it was too late. A Best Practices of going over the patient’s meds on admission would have flagged this. She arrived Friday 2pm. There will be no physical or any therapy until Monday. None. She wasn’t advised this, she had to ask where it was when by Saturday afternoon none was forthcoming. And her insurance might provide 3/5/6 days of services. The first three days, there will be none. The answer to the request was ‘no services’. I brought dinner tonight. We gave hers from Vero to our neighborhood raccoons. There was a quarter cup of sad looking pre packaged vegetable medley, a half or 3/4 scoop of instant mashed potato, no condiments, and a brown hot dog, plain, on a white bun. The chef’s soul must crush for every day’s meal (s)he sends out of the kitchen. There was canned fruit, edible, no coffee. Cranberry juice drink. The picture doesn’t include the hot dog. We were cutting it up for the raccoon and it missed the photo op. The previous breakfast was a waffle or other dry carb. No therapy and the food is lousy. I can’t comment on the staff, other than she said the PA was nice. They had a PA check her in either because there is no Physician, there’s no Physician on Saturday, or Physicians come at a higher per diem rate. Perhaps you have your reasons for coming here. Maybe you’ll cook for your Mom’s meals here, maybe your Mom is in a holding place here as opposed to therapy to get her walking again. And maybe your other sister is a Physician, so you don’t need that level of medical oversight. If these scenarios don’t apply, maybe consider other resources.
