Victoria Place: Active Senior Living in Port Townsend, WA
At Victoria Place, every day is an opportunity for older adults to learn, explore, relax and be inspired. It might start with a made-to-order breakfast, a fresh-brewed coffee and an exercise class, followed by games in the activity room, a crafting project with friends or an afternoon ice cream social. Nights bring elegant meals in the dining room, filled with regional favorites, exotic treats and lively conversation. There’s a complete daily activities calendar to engage with, and it’s designed to hit all the factors of wellness, from social connections and mental stimulation to physical fitness and occupational pursuits.
Of course, there are days when residents forgo the activities to head out and explore the postcard-perfect town of Port Townsend. It’s located on the Olympic Peninsula along the Puget Sound, where wildlife is abundant, views are spectacular, and the houses boast preserved Victorian architecture. Thanks to courtesy transportation, older adults enjoy all of the sights without having to drive. You might find them strolling around downtown, visiting Fort Worden Historical State Park, enjoying the Puget Sound Coast Artillery Museum or sipping vintages at FairWinds Winery.

Victoria Place seemed clean and well-kept. The woman who gave us the tour was very friendly. The place seemed cheerful. We liked the staff during the tour. There was a woman at reception who wasn't very engaging, although I did see when somebody from one of the residents came up, she did engage with that person, but she didn't seem inviting to us. I don't know if she was distracted by something else or what, but that was the only negative thing we had. The person who was leading the tour told us that sometimes they would use the favorite recipes of the residents in the meal planning and my friend liked that.

I've visited Victoria Place and I liked it a lot. It's staffed by very friendly people. They're very much engaged with the residents. They have access to a nice outdoor seating area and a garden. The rooms were adequate. The place was extremely clean. It appeared to me that people were quite happy there just from my observations. The staff is very, very nice. I like them a lot. The facilities were very nicely done. For what it is, it's very, very well done. I wasn't there long enough to research activities, but it is open and there is a lovely garden area. I think that it would be a place where there would be more sociability than what my brother is experiencing, which is virtually none.

Victoria Place does not have a memory care unit and as my mother progresses in her disease, I'm concerned as to their ability to keep her there because I have known of other people who've been moved from there. I love it other than that. They're very sweet and they've taken good care of my mother. There's been no hint of Covid or anything, so obviously they're doing a good job. She has a 1-bedroom apartment, so she has a bedroom plus a little living room. Because it's not memory care, she has a very small refrigerator in the room and she has "pull thing" in the bedroom, the bathroom and the living room, but they also have all their residents wearing medical alerts. It would only have 30 people. It's a 1-story building, and it is secure. My mother can get out to the garden, which she loves. It's like a big square and then the center of the square is a small garden kind of arrangement. The only little disconcerting thing is she's only been there a year and a half, and they'd already been through two or three directors. There's a lot of change there, but a lot of the regular workers are pretty steady and there's one that's been there seven years. They seem to really take good care of her. I haven't been there since last March. Because of Covid, they won't let us in, but they are helpful. If I call and say she's not answering her phone, they'll go check the phone or they'll tell her that I'm trying to call her or they'll set up a computer with her, so I can do a Zoom visit. I didn't like the staff changes that cause communication gaps and you have to keep resetting. There are new people, so you have to reestablish. Some of the new staff I haven't met personally, but those I have were very caring and sweet. The food is not too good; it had a lot of room for improvement.

Victoria Place has had some turnovers within the upper management. The rooms are not very spacious but they are kept pretty clean. Our loved one overall is pretty comfortable there. Before COVID we were able to eat some meals, and we think they needed some improvement. Our loved one currently has not complained about the food, so we think they could of made those improvements.
