We looked at Valley Crest Memory Care. We spoke to a woman named Kimberly, and she was very nice and very patient. We arrived a little after 4:30 and we began to have a sit down with her about the place. And at the time on that day, there was an episode with my dad where he kind of slipped away from my sister, who he's staying with, in Las Vegas, and she couldn't find him. Kimberly was on the phone and we were trying to get Las Vegas North PD to help with the search for him. And so, we wound up being there until around 8:00 in the evening. Kimberly had two cell phones, I had a cell phone, my wife had a cell phone, and we were burning up every text and line that we could do to find my dad. Kimberly had already been there the whole day, but she stayed there to help us with the situation that we didn't know how to deal with. Kimberly seemed like she was just above and beyond what needed to be done and very caring, very supportive, and very informative. They had shared rooms and they had individual rooms. She showed us through the place a little bit of the residence there and a little walk around the garden outside. The only thing about the place that I questioned was on the walk around outside. There was a sidewalk and there was a seam in the sidewalk where one side was higher than the other, about a half-inch or three-quarters of an inch. I brought that to their attention that this is a trip hazard, but they said that they could try to address it. The people were polite. We looked at a room and they were told us that we could furnish it with whatever we had. They all had Internet access. They could have their own cell phone or laptop or TV, laundry was furnished and all. They also offered respite care. If you don't need full-time care permanently, but you need to have someone taken care of for a week, they'll do that. So, I thought that was interesting.

We chose Valley Crest Memory Care for my ex-husband because it has a nice environment and friendly staff. They pass each resident a calendar of all the activities every day, but they also go around to remind them when activities are starting. So, they're very helpful in that way. They have a courtyard and a salon. As far as the cost, it was the best price we could find.

Our experience has been overall very good as my Dads needs have changed a-lot over the months that he has been there. His dementia has progressed rapidly and he has had many health issues in the past 4 months. The Director, [name removed] has helped me advocate and take steps for my Dad that have been remarkable under her watch. She has learned my Dad well and she truly cares about her residents. We have placed him under hospice recently while remaining to stay at Valley Crest. My one concern is that knowledge from one shift to the next is not always transferred over which I believe is important for consistency in overall care. The facility and faculty have gone above and beyond on many occasions and I feel my Dad is in the right place.

Overall compared to the two other memory care homes I have had my Mom over the last 10 years, Valley Crest is a 3 star for all the above categories. It is disorganized and old but the staff are fabulous and my sister is happy so in the end it is a great place for her based on what she can afford long term. My sister's experience has been stressful for her because they kept moving her from room to room. I understand they are redoing all the rooms but she is brand new there and it made her settling in much harder. I just wish they would have left her in her original room for a longer period of time. The staff were very understanding of her distress and go out of their way to reassure her.
