My dad is at De Las Mercedes Alf. They're very, very small, and most of the people that work there they speak Spanish, and that's what I needed for my dad. At this point, he needs more Spanish than anything else. The number one reason why I chose them was their very personal care. They only have six residents including him. It's a very small house, and it's like a home care kind of thing, and that was the main reason for me. Also, in case his health gets worse, they could go from assisted living to hospice right away, and I don't have to transfer him to another location. I have been able to talk to the owner on a very regular basis. The communication is excellent. The fact that all the staff speaks Spanish was a big thing for me, especially because of my dad. We went several times to visit at different times of the day, and the place is super clean. At this time, I don't have a very good grasp on their food because my dad has just changed from a regular diet to a more like liquid diet, so most of his food has to be blended. The place is probably like two blocks away from Lowry Park Zoo, and my parents used to love going there. So my siblings and I take him there quite often; almost every other day we go there. There are some things in the surrounding area. There's a park that is really nice that is close by the river, so that's another thing. The facility itself is very simple, but what surrounds it and what you can do with what is surrounding it, it makes a big difference. They have small activities but not that many.
