Highland Health and Rehabilitation has become like family. They have facilitated my educational growth by providing complete funding of my Activity Director Training and moving me up from working on the floor as a CNA to becoming the Activity Director of the facility. We are a close and tight knit work family. When my husband was tragically killed in an accident, Highland pulled me through not only emotional but financially. I don''t know what I would have done what out my Highland family. Here at Highland we are constantly advocating for our residents as well, to give them best care and environment possible. The Staff that works here truly do care for our residents, especially more so during these Covid 19 times when family has not been able to be here for there loved ones. Our Staff goes out of its way to make our residents feel safe, loved and cared for. Highland will always feel like home to me.

I''ve been working at Highland for over 11 years and I can honestly say it''s my home away from home. It is such a privilege knowing I get to work with some of the most amazing individuals I''ve ever encountered. We have been through thick and thin together and I can''t imagine a life without them. Because we''re a small facility we have the extra time to spend with our amazing residents and build a quality relationship with each and every one. I started out at Highland as a volunteer and was offered a job as a wheel chair washer. Soon after that I made my way into housekeeping and saw how rewarding it was to actually help and take care of the wonderful residents living there. I was encouraged by my coworkers to obtain my nursing assistant certification and so I did! Ever since then I knew I was in the right place. 11 years later and I have learned so much! Within those 11 years I have come to know every nook and cranny of the facility to which opened a whole new opportunity of becoming maintenance supervisor. Needless to say, I love it here. I''m blessed to be part of this family.

My Mom probably has lewy body dementia with parkinsonism. She has hallucinations and delusions and severe sundowners, she didn''t sleep for nearly two weeks at one time. She was not an easy case to take on. Through Hospice, my mother was placed at Highland Health when it became obvious that no amount of love and dedication at home was going to be the best care for her. It broke my heart that it had come to this. I personally felt a bit of a failure. She had already had a temporary stay at a facility in Skagit and because of that experience I was worried about the kind of care she would receive. I had nothing to worry about. I know they are special, just not sure why so many wonderful people ended up at the same facility. They are kind, compassionate, funny, helpful and understanding. They exhibit all of the characteristics of the kind of people I want taking care of my mother. They are superlative. Yes, the facility is a bit dated looking, the decor makes it seem a bit dark, and it is cramped for long-term care, but the attitudes of the staff more than compensate for the shortcomings of the building. Also, while the lights are always on, they are not high wattage. Bit, it is important to remember that aged people, especially those with dementia are almost always sensitive to bright lights, so the dimmer wattage is only for the comfort of their patients. My heart is heavy for the situation my Mom is in, but I honestly feel so grateful that she is at Highland Health. It allows me such peace of mind knowing she is so well cared for by these extraordinary people.
