GI lab staff was extremely helpful, thoughtful and knowledgeable. I had a great experience with my procedure.
Clean. Staff is friendly and attentive.

I had a very bad experience with the CPEP intake process. Some of the staff show a lack of competency and professionalism. I arrived in the ER around 4:30am and was not discharged until around 4pm. They made me wait all morning and afternoon before letting me speak to a social worker. I understand that they were busy but making a patient wait this long is ridiculous. I had to be medically cleared first which was delayed because the staff failed to inform me that I needed to provide a urine sample. This added hours to my wait. I kept having to ask for an update on my situation as I waited because the staff didn''t bother to keep me informed. I feel like they treat psychiatric patients differently from medical patients which is discrimination. To make matters more worse one of the nurses asked me for very personal information in front of other patients. He ignored my right to privacy as a patient which is not only unprofessional but it also shows a disregard for the situation that I was in. That nurse was not the only one who did this to me. The social worker who eventually came over to speak to me asked me to discuss sensitive information near other patients as well with nothing but a screen dividing us from them. I was uncomfortable and asked to speak to her privately in a room however she claimed that there were no rooms available. I am sure that this is a HIPPA violation and puts extra strain on patients who are already under tremendous stress. She did not seem to be concerned about this and went on asking me various detailed questions. On another note my information is already in the UHS system so there was no need for me to reiterate my history. Verifying basic info is understandable but going into unnecessary details is uncalled for and stressful. The staff also poorly handles patients that are acting aggressive or disruptive such as annoying other patients or making a scene in front of others. They do very little to deal with unruly patients that are being very loud or are using offensive words. Several different patients did this near me at various times while I waited in the ER. This has happened before in my past visits so nothing has changed regarding that. This stresses out other people that are waiting to be seen as everyone is obviously bothered by this kind of behavior. People come here to get help and not to deal with more problems which I clearly had to deal with. My experience in this ER made things more worse for me and I would not recommend coming here for psychiatric care. The Binghamton General Hospital ER needs some serious reform because they are negatively impacting the patients that are coming in for treatment. Also, on a greater scale the community is negatively impacted by the unprofessionalism and incompetency of this ER department. This is especially evident in the CPEP department.
