1.Do NOT "trust" that the medication oversight for your loved one is being strictly adhered to and understood! Staff members are rewarded with retaining employment after injuring elder resident by not administering necessary prescribed medications for several days! Employees still allowed to administer medications after gross negligence. Management may respond to this review otherwise but will NOT be truthful . Their primary goal is to keep their rooms filled and to not properly address their managerial shortcomings to all I am stating here in this very honest review. 2. Do Not expect "quality" food and consistency for your loved ones. A constant revolving door of chefs . 3. Do Not expect and assume that your loved ones'' apartment is being cleaned appropriately. Housekeeping is horrific! For this reason, I had to physically clean my mother''s room myself to ensure cleanliness! 4. Do Not " trust" that your loved ones belongings are safe. My mother had purse, money, gift cards, perfume & clothes " Stolen" by staff members during the time she lived here. Management assumes No responsibility for these misdeeds. If you " ask" them to call the police to make a report, they will do so, but it''s done just to appear they are doing the right thing. They will interrogate your loved one , when they should be addressing their internal staff issues in this regard. 5. There are NO , " NO Security Cameras" on The Reserve property! I was told that when MBK bought property ; security cameras were dismantled ! They feel No need to invest in securing residents on property to this degree. To make matters worse; they run on an absolute ghost staff at night! It''s absolutely a terrible feeling to not have adequate staff on premises at all hours! MBK''s goal is to make money like every other business ; but Assisted Living Communities are a business that potentially could be the matter of life or death if appropriate and well trained staff are not present 24/7. 6. Make no mistake, management will insist they follow industry standards and they meet industry standards. Sadly , industry standards bar is not set high enough to protect our loved ones on so many levels ! But rest assured , when residents receive their " Annual Rent Increase" of 8% to 10% , at The Reserve , they will be told the costs of operations have gone way up; Yet , there will be less Staff, Sub-Par Food , No safer an environment & the same negligent staff members still employed who oversee medications for your loved ones. And sadly those employees that are capable will be exhausted from working double shifts! How is any of the above a benefit to seniors who deserve so much more , heading into the last years of their lives? 7. Do " Not" expect handicap accessible accommodations in majority of apartments. Be fully aware that if wheelchairs are needed as your loved ones age; bathrooms are not built or remodeled ( yet) to accommodate easy and smooth transfer from chair to shower and toilets. 8. Management spent millions of dollars updating the lobby area, dining area and "hallway " carpets BUT ZERO improvements to Residents rooms where they LIVE! MBK offers the " illusion of appearances" to prospective renters that The Reserve is updated versus investing in New Fresh Carpets in Apartments, Investing in Central Heating/Air in main building , security camera systems on property, changing Lightbulbs throughout property on light posts for night safety and turning the lobby patio lights on as a daily practice for night safety and last but certainly not least; they say they pay their staff to industry standards and yet staff retention over the years has been extremely POOR! They make excuses for it but truth be told ; the best caregivers leave to earn better wages and benefits ; others leave to go back to school etc But bottom line seniors need and crave consistency!!! Once they become bonded with caregivers ; they end up resigning.

My parents moved to The Reserve in Thousand Oaks almost ten years ago and as their daughter I’m so glad they did. They could live independently or get help when they needed it. What a relief to my sister and myself. It’s a beautiful community and the management and kind staff is exceptional. My parents were so happy there. Sadly Dad passed a few years ago and Mom now needs skilled nursing after a fall. I feel I need to share our experience. They had a large apartment and could fix their own meals or go to the beautiful dining room. The food service is great by the way! There are so many ways to interact with the neighbors whether it be games, movies or outings where transportation is provided. My parents didn’t socialize much but they did make friends within the complex. Dad and Mom would treat the family to special events held on holidays for the residents and their guests. With all of the amenities at The Reserve they said that it, "felt like a vacation every day!"

I love the home feel of The Reserve at Thousand Oaks. The staff there was wonderful. I would be very comfortable there. The people seemed very nice. As you walk around, there seemed to be just plenty of activities. When we were there, we were able to see people playing scrabble, cards, and playing poker. The staff was very nice, it was very much like being at home. I didn't like the bathroom setup very much. I would be happy if my sister was there. They have very cordial people staying there, people looked up and said hello. The dining area is a very nice, you can go down and eat anytime you want. They have regular hours for food, but you can go down there. They have a little bistro, and you can get food anytime you want. They have a library and an exercise room. I didn't like the layout of the room, that was very confusing to me, where you took a shower. You had to leave your room and go a few feet to the shower. They have religious services every morning of three different denominations.
