Do your homework. Before making a decision, take your time and talk to a number of the residents and families at different times during the week and on weekends. Since the change of ownership last summer, there seems to be a shift in the culture. The assisted living no longer has that "family owned" atmosphere. It's now owned and ran by a "corporation". Staff turnover, less caregivers and no permanent nurse on staff has caused some errors and delays in care. Meanwhile, they've been promising a full time nurse since December of last year.

The change in ownership last August caused some staff to leave; however, we have had no issues with responsiveness when problems arise. The aids there are doing a good job (it's a tough job regardless of staffing levels). [Other facilities have issues hiring/keeping staff also.] Training is ongoing from what we see. Rooms clean and well-lit. New food management has improved quality of food. Lack of an RN for a period is a concern but have been told one has been hired and will join the staff soon.

February, 2023 - This facility is a private pay facility and used to be called Grace Assisted Living. Under the old management, it had an excellent reputation and came highly recommended. But, the facility changed owners last summer and is now The Bay at Chesterfield. The State of Michigan website does not list The Bay as a licensed facility at present. Currently, The Bay no longer has a full-time nurse on staff either. I feel these are two significant disadvantages for the residents. Also, many of the experienced managers and caregivers left after the change of ownership. In addition, The Bay is often shorthanded. At those times, medications may be late and call buttons have been answered late or not at all. There is also noticeable employee turnover. It's sad because the building is on the newer side, has some good caregivers and the food is ok.

I was referred to this facility by caring.com. But, in the past year, this facility has gone downhill. Although they have a handful of excellent caregivers, the rest are average or less than average. The facility is usually short-staffed. Minimally trained caregivers and constant turnover make care quality inconsistent. And despite repeated meetings on shortcomings, issues are not resolved.
