Sunrise of Shelby Rochester was in our top 3, I really liked this facility. The reason we did not go with them was because of the way their pricing was set up. It was "al a carte" so they had a base fee and then things like medication, showers, etc. were all an add on fee which would end up being too expensive. The staff were great with following up with us after the tour.

My mother lived at Sunrise for about a year in Memory Care and I would say her treatment and the conditions there were inconsistent. Most of the caregivers were friendly and treated her with respect and genuine kindness, but a few were rude and dismissive. At times it seemed those few were not the best kind of people to be handling dementia sufferers, who can be difficult to deal with on a daily basis. In addition, the cleanliness of the 4th floor was at times spotty, but we all know this can be difficult to stay ahead of in MC. After a year of issues, which were raised to management, we moved our Mom to another facility a mile away still in Rochester and she is doing much better. After she left, we heard one of the MC coordinators left Sunrise, which might have led to a better environment for those still there. We certainly hope so.

Our tour at Sunrise of Rochester was nice. My wife didn't like the level of the windows; she felt my in-laws could fall through the windows because they're so low. The facility itself was all right. They had the same amenities as others, they had a dining room, they had snacks and meals. It's in a good location, downtown. The staff that walked us through was very good and very professional. The facility itself is dated, it needed updates.

We had a great tour with Sunrise. The guy who gave us the tour was super friendly and really knew his stuff. The living space was too small for my parents and there was also a large staircase in the lobby that we were nervous was going to be a hazard for my dad.
This community was okay to me I just did not like the fact that the memory care unit was on the fourth floor. I wanted my loved one to be on the ground floor.
