It’s all about a lifestyle of leisure at Sunrise at Fleetwood (after all, seniors have more than earned it). Stop in on any given day and you’ll find older adults here tending their gardens, strolling the well-manicured walking paths, chatting with friends in the cheery sunroom and grabbing coffee and freshly baked bread at the 24-hour cafe. You’d also catch them sipping cocktails at resident get-togethers, practicing their yoga poses, playing group games and gathering for classic movies in the theater.
Of course, Sunrise at Fleetwood is within 20 minutes of Manhattan, so there’s no shortage of things to do outside the community. Some resident favorites include tiptoeing through the tulips at New York Botanical Garden and Wave Hill, trying their luck at Empire City Casino or checking out the shops and restaurants in Eastchester and Scarsdale. External medical support is also close by at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, St. John’s Riverside Hospital and New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Sunrise at Fleetwood: Assisted Living, Terrace Club and Memory Care
Sunrise at Fleetwood truly offers a continuum of care (it’s no wonder it won the Bronze National Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living [AHCA/NCAL]). It starts with assisted living, where residents receive the 24/7 support they need to pursue their passions, whether it’s medication management or assistance with daily tasks like bathing, grooming, dressing and mobility. Area practitioners visit regularly, and residents get complimentary transportation to appointments.
Then there’s the Terrace Club, a highly customizable program for seniors who are just beginning to show signs of dementia or memory loss. Here, they benefit from a little more support for getting on track with a daily routine, plus daily activities designed to slow the progression of memory impairment.
Finally, the Reminiscence Memory Care Program helps older adults with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia lead dignified, fulfilling lives. This unique neighborhood boasts specially built tranquil environments, easy-to-navigate spaces and dedicated caregivers called Life Enrichment Managers. These professionals apply Validation Therapy and other therapeutic techniques (approved by the Alzheimer’s Association) to meet the social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of residents.

The facility is very well- kept. The size of the room is adequate. The food is good. They take my mom out of her room every day.

My mother has moved into Sunrise at Fleetwood. It was close to where my mother was living before, so she would be able to still visit with friends and things like that. They were just very nice when I went to visit. The staff has been amazing, and her room seems fine. I have nothing to compare it to, but it's a good room. I can't speak about their activities because she has only been there for a day. They have a lot of activities, but that wasn't my concern in trying to get her there. It was more for the care that she would receive. It seems like a very nice place. I don't have much experience with them, but so far it's been a very good experience.

Choosing Sunrise for my mom was the best choice I’ve made. She feels secure and happy and it’s close to my home. I can’t say anything other then the staff is outstanding, from management to the cleaning crew. It feels like home to my mom and that’s what counts to me.

I toured Sunrise at Fleetwood. The setting for this one was totally different. It was like being in a park setting. It was the most beautiful setting I've ever seen for any assisted living area. I would like to move there tomorrow. It was a beautiful setting and a beautiful thing. The rooms might have been a little bit smaller, but it was just a little bit of a smaller scale. The entire building may have been a little smaller, but the setting was just gorgeous. I would raise them through determination. The staff had similar problems in her family that my family's having with my disabled brother. She spoke to me like she knew where I was coming from. I think her name's Debbie. It seemed like it had much older people in it. My brother is only 68 and having to go to an assisted living is kind of tough. It was lovely and beautiful. The people were nice. Everything was just what I would want. I'm just not sure it's the right fit for him because he's so young. It's a little bit of a process for my family to go through this.
