My mom already moved into Sunnycrest Senior Living. We like the location. It's right near her doctor's office and it's right near the hospital. It just seems to be a clean environment, and that's important for me to see that. The patio on the outside of the facility seemed to be nicer than the other places we looked. She's enjoying the food, and that was one of the main reasons that she needed help with. So, that's been a huge plus for her. We had to bring our own appliances. We got her a small fridge. She brought her Keurig coffee maker and we also provided her with a small microwave. So, those are the only things she needs. To be honest, she probably doesn't even need the microwave. The kitchen seems very accommodating. She can pretty much order anything at any time. They've got a little snack room that's available where she can go pick up a coffee cup for her Keurig. So, she's happy about that. And if she misses breakfast, she can go to the snack room and get a granola bar, a coffee, and some juice. They also have milk there for the coffee, and she can bring that back to her room if she wants. One of the first things she did the first couple of days, because she was so tired from moving, was that she called the kitchen and ordered a meal, and then all she had to do was go pick it up and come back to her room, relax, and eat it. To deliver to the room, there's a $5 charge, which is less than most of the places we looked at. It's an older facility, but it's very clean. And the layout is dependent on where the room is located. We had to make sure she was very close to the activities area as well as the food area, so she didn't have to navigate up an elevator or long hallways or ramps. They also have a very robust activity calendar.

I visited Sunnycrest Senior Living last week. It was very well run. I did not see as many residents going about. I only saw a couple of people sitting in the front. But, I think there are a lot more independent seniors living there, they told me that the seniors could go in and out to take the dog and take a walk. The receptionist and the person who provided tours were very, very good, very informative, and explained everything very well. The room looks very clean. They are not furnished, but they told me that if my mom were to check in, they would be sure to furnish the room with the basic furniture, like a bed, dresser, and chair. It was very clean, well kept, It has a nice courtyard. I think it was overall very well maintained. The rooms were clean.

My wife is now at Sunnycrest Senior Living. It looks like a nice three-star hotel. It is very expensive. It's a one-room with a bathroom attached and then three meals. I pay the rent, but it's very good. So far, they've been providing transportation for my wife's dialysis. Before I was responsible for that, and that's a big headache because that was out-of-pocket expenses. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. My wife said the food is very good.

I would say that all senior facilities seem to have a large turnover of employees, but the only way to know what a place is really like is to talk to people. If you can tour and talk to people living there and ask about how Long employees last, how the food and care are, etc that would be helpful. Knowing others that have family staying there, and getting their feedback is ideal, but that isn't always possible. Food was always an issue & got worse with time, as well as food service.
