Shelby Gardens Place had a nice amount of staff and a lot of charts-like boards on the walls. It looked nice and clean. It was well-kept and decorated. The staff who gave the tour was nice, helpful, and very knowledgeable. They had a lot of activities. They had speech therapy and physical therapy that was there onsite, so there's a lot of good things there. The dining hall looked okay, but it could have been a little nicer. It was kind of bare. They could add tablecloths or something to make it prettier.

I went to look at Shelby Gardens Place. The rooms were very small, but the facility was clean. It was more like a hospital. They were very nice to us. But I'd have a hard time putting my sister in those tiny little rooms. They showed us a calendar of some of the things they do, like bingo and movies...

On entering, everything appears pleasant and nice. Walk down the halls of memory care unannounced. You will find patients in soiled garments, patients stuck in front of the tv or just left in their room lying in bed. Unless you can feed yourself or have Hanukkah to assist- you won't eat. Patients were NEVER taken outside for the year and a half my mother was there. We had family with my mom every day and until she fell asleep at night to assure she was fed, gotten up in a chair and her toileting needs were met . State and the adult protective services had to be called due to the negligent care patients received. Management doesn't respond to any concerns. They act like they are listening and will talk with you and then do ZERO. Patients are malnourished, dehydrated and left in soiled undergarments. Do not send your loved one here.

They do not clean the rooms. They don't let you know if the are having any problems with your love one. My mother received bruises and scratches after being the for a week. I ended up taking her out. I visited my mother every day. She wasn't getting baths, her clothes were missing and they didn't tell me she was aggressive until I saw the bruises. I would not recommend Shelby Gardens Place to anyone.
