Summit Assisted Living of Tarzana was an older facility, but it seemed better-taken care of than the other place. Still, it's an older facility. One of the things that turned me off is the entrance. It was like glass doors with glass windows, and the windows were really dirty with fingerprints and stuff. The gentleman that showed us around, was pleasant enough. We asked some questions that we kind of got vague answers to. We just realized that that's not going to be one of the places we would choose. The rooms were comparable to other facilities. They have like acoustical ceilings, which were fine. Also, that area was not the place we wanted, so we decided that we didn't care for that. It's just an older building that also needs some TLC. They have a little patio outdoor area, which seemed fine. It was a nice outdoor with some greenery, trees, and stuff.

My mom was in Summit Assisted Living of Tarzana. The first year when it had a different owner, it was wonderful. After that, things started to go downhill. It changed hands at the end of February or beginning of March, but we weren't informed about that until June. The staff treated her like a bother. I don't know what the food is like at Summit, but I know that she wouldn't eat it. The room was never cleaned, and then when we went to pack things up, there were things that were missing, clothes that weren't hers. And when she went in, every piece of clothing that was in there had a new tag on it. She had that many things in her home, so some of the things were really quite nice and they were missing. They raised the prices so much that the prices were raised in January, and then Summit raised them again in June. And for what we were paying, it wasn't OK. There was a lack of communication. I had asked to be a part of the care plan, and I was never called. She fell two times and they neglected to say that. Also, when they transferred her, the information was totally fictitious. My mom does not weigh 130 pounds, she's closer to 200 pounds. They said it was a one person, moderate assist. It's not, it's a three-person assist. So I'm very disappointed in the fact that they actually lied like a boldfaced lie on a Zoom meeting to the facility head of the other place, myself, my husband, the nurse, and my mom. It was just totally not true. And that was very disappointing because that meant that she could not stay at the other place.

My father, who had been living at Brookdale for a couple of years, had surgery which landed him in a rehab facility for nearly 5 months. At [age removed], he was in pretty bad shape but the staff at Brookdale didn’t hesitate to take him back. The management, medical team and the entire staff from the aides, the kitchen and housekeeping made sure he had everything he needed. I wasn’t surprised by all their concern and kindness because the staff at Brookdale truly treat the residents and their relatives like family. And despite all his doctors’ predictions that he would never recover, my dad flourished in this place that literally loved him back to health. You hear all these horrible stories about Assisted Living facilities and I thank God everyday that I found Brookdale. Knowing he is cared for and cared about took away all the stress that comes with having an aging parent. Honestly, I don’t know where I’d be or how I would cope without them! They are truly my Angels!
Read morethey have a very caring and helpful staff, and they take care of all her medical needs including transportation, and medication management. Room sizes are nice similar to a large studio apt, I loved the food and thought it was tasty. I would recommend this facility to others.
I couldn''t love the place & the people who care for my dad—from the receptionists to the nursing staff—more. I am so very thankful he is in such a warm & inviting atmosphere where he is safe and checked-on throughout the day. Really love BNT 💚.
