I didn't like Pacifica Senior Living Union City. It didn't feel welcoming. It did not feel homey. It was not a place that I would like for my brother to be. The apartment was acceptable. The staff was informative, though they didn't seem to have gotten any notification that I was coming. I was toured there by someone who wasn't a salesperson or anything like that. She didn't know much of anything but was very willing to find out and connect me back. It just wasn't very impressive. I think they need an update the facility. It looked rather worn. The one good thing is that they supplied furniture. People were watching TV in the middle of the day and others were sleeping, slumped in chairs. It just wasn't a pleasant place. Everybody was locked down. They had a beautiful outside area, but they didn't let people go out there and I thought that that was too bad. It was very large. They had two sides to it and it was mostly empty. I didn't think that the caregivers were very attentive. They were acting like guards and they weren't interacting with the people. It just didn't give a nice feeling. They should let people go outside, and fix it so that people can wander around and can't hurt themselves and have a little more freedom. It looked sad. It was kind of dark. It didn't look happy. It didn't have a feeling of being homey and warm. It's not a place where you can leave somebody that you love.

My mom is still at Pacifica Senior Living Union City. I liked the facility and the cleanliness of it. However, they need to improve it as of right now. They're changing staff constantly. They need to have more one-on-one with the patients. They don't do that per se; they just leave them alone for a long period of time. They need to improve their interaction. They seem to have a better director now. The past two and a half years they probably had more than five directors since my mom has been there at least, so they keep changing. But at the moment, they have a pretty good one now. Podiatry comes every once in a while. They have people coming in. However, the cost keeps going up. In terms of location, it's within 5 minutes of restaurants and the hospital is probably about 15 minutes away.

Pacifica Senior Living Union City wasn't that expensive. I chose to stay there because they had a two-week minimum while a lot of the other facilities had a 30-day minimum. The facility was spread out. So, there was a lot of walking I had to do with my walker and I was put in a room fairly far away from the dining area. It's a two-story place with an elevator and anybody that can walk, can get around, but it was hard for me. I'm used to a low-fat, high-fiber, high-protein diet, and their meals were not like that. A lot of the seniors there could have benefited, health-wise, if they had lowered the fat content of their meals and increased the protein, complex carbohydrates and fiber. Also, the things on their alternate menu, if you didn't like the meal of the day, were not often available. So, I was generally disappointed in the food, because it's like so many places. With a little bit of planning, they could make it a lot healthier for seniors. It was just very uninteresting food. The staff were very nice though.

We went to Pacifica Senior Living Union City. The tour was good, the place was really clean. We talked to some residents and they liked it there. They were happy. It was a little too independent, for the care that we need but, it's a nice place. I would recommend it to anyone. They had a huge social calendar that had things planned for every day of the month and lots of areas where the residents could meet up and do things. There's coffee, games, they have activities, they have buses that take them to different places. Everything looked new and clean. We interacted with a few staff members, and the only thing I didn't like is that when we walked in we had to, like, stand there for a long time before anybody acknowledged us. But once we interacted with the staff, they were. They were all nice.
Read moreI would give a recommendation based on my experience to date. If a friend asked about my experience, I would give a positive review. We picked this community, because of the price, services, and geographic proximity.
When I came to pick up my she was unclean and smelled awful. She had to go to the hospital because she was dehydrated and had developed a UTI. Based on the experience we have had with Pacifica Senior Living, we would definitely NOT recommend this community to other families.
