We went to Holiday by Atria Marion Woods. Colton was fantastic. He was the gentleman who gave us the tour and spoke with us at length. Looks like they were in the process of hiring an activities director. They were also in the process of doing some remodeling, and they just had some major water damage, so they were still fixing that, and their wifi was down that day. We opted not to go that direction because if at some point mom needs more assistance that she can't get at Marian Woods, that is completely independent living. One of the other things I liked about it was when you go in, it's very spacious and very bright. I did see several people in the dining area, which is also their gathering area. So there were several people just sitting pleasantly with each other. And he said their activities would be picking up once they hired the new activities director. I didn't like the fact that they didn't have somebody on board.

We toured Holiday Marion Woods. The person who gave us the tour was very friendly. But the room that he showed us was dirty, dated, and it smelled funny. They were under renovation and a lot of the rooms were being painted and they were changing things. Maybe he could have shown us a room that was finished. He talked about the activities but he did not show us the calendar of activities. The dining room looked OK. It was very dated. It kind of looked and smelled like a cafeteria.

They were undergoing renovation, so that made it very difficult to see what it's going to be. They're doing a full facility redo over a period of months. They were replacing carpeting, replacing flooring, and replacing everything. They've got part of it not shut down. It was a mess in certain areas, but they kept it out of the way. As they get a room open, they're totally redoing the rooms. They had kitchenettes in the rooms, not kitchens. They had some very good options as far as the bedroom sizes, and their apartments had screened-in porches. They had a total salon. The staff who assisted us with the tour was excellent. We were introduced to the senior manager in the evening who was doing a visit to see what was going on. They were very cooperative and they spent like 20 minutes with us just trying to make sure everything was good. They had the transportation, but they basically do it two days a week instead of five days a week. They had options on their bus trips to go visit a restaurant about every two weeks.

I had lunch with them and the food was excellent. It wasn't very much, but it was enough for me. They had an activities room where there were some watercolor paintings on display. They also do bingo and I was shown the pool. Throughout the levels that I was at, they had little places where you could sit and be kind of private. The staff was very nice. They were real people, which was very refreshing. The areas where there was no construction was clean and inviting. I enjoyed it myself immensely.
