Oak Crest has provided a new lease on life for many of the residents, including me! I am much more active and have made many new friendships since moving to Oak Crest. There are not enough hours in the day to do everything I''d like to do here at OCV. I am so grateful I moved in while young enough (68) to enjoy the activities. My grown children have said my move to Oak Crest is one of the best gifts I have given them. They no longer have to worry about my safety, and can actually sit and visit with me now that I no longer need help with home maintenance! Do yourself a favor --if you are 60 or older, you should check out OCV.

Helped Mom and Dad move here in 2020 because they were so isolated at their last place during the pandemic. Oak Crest did not lock down independent living residents -- because, I guess, residents basically own their homes and, after all, what is independent living if you''re locked in your apartment? Here''s what we have learned so far: 1. Our interactions with staff have been 95 percent over-the-top positive. Any time I call about something, someone cares enough to help. There are so many kind, helpful people here -- just not enough people overall. Like everyplace else, Oak Crest is suffering from staffing issues. 2. We had pretty unsatisfactory experiences with their home care agency and will look elsewhere should we need that again. 3. We find their insurance and medical care to be satisfactory for independent living; not so much in the care center. We should have had hospice, comforting medication and a more peaceful ending for my father, who passed away there. There needs to be a better communication system for family members and caretakers. Unfortunately, poor end-of-life care seems to be the rule, not the exception, in our great country. 4. Renovations and upgrades are ongoing, and the restaurant options are almost overwhelming. There''s some really good food, some not so good, which is to be expected when feeding so many every day. Overall, it''s a very nice place. Institutional looking from the outside, but modern, nicely designed and well kept on the inside. 5. Memory care seems like a good option for those with memory issues short of full-blown dementia. Lots of care and programs. 6. Yes, we know that when the time comes to get that deposit back, they are going to hold on to every little bit they can for as long as they can. In the meantime, we feel like Mom is safe and has easy access to the services she needs and activities she enjoys. We just hope she remains in independent living for the rest of her life.

This place is NOT A NON-PROFIT...don''t get fooled by the bible verses etched in stone. They take you for everything they can get once you leave independent living. The place is beautifully decorated but.... A fun note: They ''forgot'' to send the deposit to us at the end of the 60 days. Some new residents have an agreement for a 90% refund and older residents are at 100% minus refurbishment costs. When we reminded them, after a two week grace period because of the holidays and the Covid spike, they told us it would be a ''few more weeks'' before they could send our money...which I think is a significant chunk of change. A lot more than $100K...Hold on to your original contract. My family member has passed. The cost for her care was $11K a month for years and she did not get adequate care. There is not enough staff. Perhaps this is due to Covid, or how cheap the administration is. Staff are overworked and underpaid. Most of them have good intentions. Do not expect a reply to an email to anyone in the administration. They won''t put anything in writing.
