I chose Northwood Assisted Living for my mother because of the room, it was clean, and the staff was very friendly. She's only been in there a few weeks, and we're still getting to know all the staff and everything. I'm looking for honesty with these people; I need to be told the truth. In some of the places I went to, they were just like car salesmen. But the people at Northwood seem genuine. My mom seems to like the food just fine. They have a big hall to eat dinner. I have seen a computer room. There are grocery stores nearby, Kroger's right down the road, and some restaurants like McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell.

Northwood Assisted Living reminded me of a nursing home. As I sat down and we were waiting for Taylor to come, I looked around. It appeared to be a clean place. The people seemed to have the freedom to come and go, which I like, because it was assisted living. I want my mom to feel like she can come and go as she pleases, which I know is one of her concerns. The people were very hospitable, and the people that were passing by us appeared to be happy. Taylor was very sweet and very informative. She answered all of our questions. She showed us a studio apartment that mom would be living in, if we chose to go there. It had been recently renovated with carpet and paint, which was nice. She told us they could put in a little refrigerator for her and a small apartment sized stove/oven. She showed us around the kitchen area of the place itself, the dining room, and the area where they meet. There was a piano in there. She showed us the board of what types of activities they have, which was completely full. She gave us a rundown of services my mother could expect to have. They have physical therapy, which appealed to me. She was very patient. Her presentation itself was nice. She was clean. She was dressed professionally, not like skirt and tie, but certainly wasn't dressed down or anything like that.

I was not able to see an actual apartment at Northwood Assisted Living. So all I saw were the facilities around it, and I talked to the people who ran it. The people seemed very nice. They were very helpful and explained things well about going from assisted living to making a transition to a nursing home in the future. They were connected to one, so that was good. The staff who assisted us was very nice, helpful, and asked the right questions. She was very efficient. The dining area wasn't great. It was pretty small. I saw the food that they offered, and I wouldn't be excited to live there myself.

My parents have moved into Northwood Assisted Living. The area is nice where they're at. They have a pond outside their place and it has ducks and stuff, so they're enjoying that. The apartment that they live in is nice and roomy. They have activities, and they have a place where they can walk outside and it's pretty. Dad plays the guitar, so all the residents can hear that. I know the staff is very nice to them, although sometimes they get treated as children, and I don't like that. I wish that the staff would realize that this is their home now. They knock and they come in, in their apartments and I just don't like that because that's their home. I want them to be treated with respect. The dining area looks nice, and the people there are nice. They get three meals a day and there's coffee all the time. I always think it's too expensive. There's therapy there.
