I toured Mt Gems - Ruby House. They were doing some remodeling stuff. All of their stuff that would normally be out on the porch was inside, so it's not super safe with a person that has a walker or something. The bedroom where my mother-in-law would have been was average size for a shared room. The toilet was against the wall, and you had to pull a curtain to have privacy and it was just really weird. However, I saw the food and it looked very good.

Mt Gems - Ruby House is an old home that has been remodeled. My stepdad is in the memory care area and the care has been wonderful. We don't regret moving him in there for a minute. It's more home-like and he gets a lot of attention, and that's what we're after. They are also pretty good at keeping the group together and doing things rather than being isolated in their rooms. My mom has visited him many times and she has been very, very pleased with the care as well. They have been truly helpful and caring, and they seem to genuinely care for him. Even the cost we're paying is less expensive than the place he was at before.

My mom has moved into Mt. Gems Ruby House. It's memory care. It's a home that has been added onto and converted into a care facility, and that's one of the things I liked about it. It is like my mom in a home versus something that's more hospital. There are lots of light and windows. It has a little courtyard area that they can go out to be outside. It's very homey, which is very much what I like. Since we were unable to bring her back to her own home, I wanted her in another home like facility that would be comfortable for her. The staff that we've met and worked with so far have been fantastic. They're all very caring individuals. They are very personable with my mom. I have nothing but good things to say about them at this point. We've only been there a little bit, but so far it's been good. It works perfectly for my mom. It is an older home, but it has a lot of character to it, but it's completely accessible for my mom, who is permanently in a wheelchair. The rooms are a very nice size. Of course, I'm only seeing the room that my mother's in, but it seems to be in great shape. I've seen their menu. They so far have been things my mom has liked. My mom is a good eater and so far she's enjoyed the food. I personally have not tried any of the food, but you know, there's three meals a day, they have two snacks, and my mom is very happy with what they have. They have some services where they bring somebody that could cut hair and do nails. We have not done any of that at this point. My mom is still kind of transitioning into the place. They have a common area where they have a lot of movies and rooms that have TVs in them. They have a courtyard area where you can go out. They have benches and swings on them to enjoy the weather outside. The day that we checked her in, they had somebody who came in and was doing music, playing a keyboard, and singing songs. As for the menu, there is a large variety, and it is well balanced.

My father moved into Mt Gems Ruby House. We chose them because of the availability. There are not many facilities where you can get anybody in right now. Second reason is because I knew people that had somebody in there before and talked to them. Thirdly, it's small, so they get more individual attention. I think they're limited to 16 residents. What they did was they took two Victorian homes, connected them together and totally remodeled them into an apartment, and it's pretty nice. It's like a home instead of a hospital. I liked everybody that I've met, they all seem to have a good attitude. If somebody's tainting their job, you can tell as soon as you talk to them. I like the staff the best. That was what turned me over on the decision. It has a courtyard. It looks very nice, totally remodeled, everything is clean and nice, good security. They do something every day and it varies. There's some kind of activity every day if they want to participate. Right now, my dad is not participating because he's mad about being in there, but he's already made some friends there, which I like. He's always been a very gregarious person. With Covid, I can't really go inside but I monitor with video. This is the only one in town that has zero Covid. There were no employees and no patients that have had Covid there. I've been there multiple times. They home cook everything. The price was far less than I thought it was gonna be.
