Life is Brighter at Merrill Gardens at Monterey
The first thing you’ll notice about Merrill Gardens at Monterey is the bright, beautiful spaces, which boast a modern, yet comfortable feel. They’re welcoming in the way a five-star resort is; sculptures adorn the common spaces, plush furnishings are everywhere, and indoor and outdoor stone fireplaces provide a wonderful place to relax. Residents can take a dip in the indoor heated pool, get their hair done at the on-site salon, or gather for movie nights in the theater room.
The beauty is more than skin deep here, though. The compassionate caretakers see care as a way of life, not just a service. They get to know each resident personally to understand their life stories, passions, lifestyle preferences, and medical needs. They’re around 24 hours a day to provide support, whether it’s for medication management or assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and more. They also ensure there’s always something fun to do — seniors take art classes, get together for live entertainment, do exercise sessions and play with visiting animals.
Merrill Gardens at Monterey: A Great Place to Call Home
Merrill Gardens at Monterey is ideally located along the California coast, which means warm sea breezes and easy access to beaches. It’s right next to The Del Monte Center, which offers upscale shopping and dining, and just minutes from the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. Residents enjoy doing wine tastings on Cannery Row, heading to Old Fisherman’s Wharf, and visiting the Colton Hall Museum, where the state of California was born.
When they’re done exploring, seniors can retreat to their beautiful residences — Merrill Gardens at Monterey offers four: two roomy studios, a one-bedroom, and a 1,000-square-foot two-bedroom suite. These apartment homes offer decks with beautiful views of the coast, large walk-in closets, in-unit washer/dryers, and full kitchens for entertaining.

We moved my mom to Merrill Gardens this year and we were worried about the transition into assisted living for her. Everything has been amazing here at Merrill Gardens Monterey. From Maureen who showed us around and is so caring and compassionate, to Lucy and Kathy at the Front Desk always greeting us with a smile, to the amazing Chef and staff that prepare food and serve it with a smile. The Med Techs and Housekeeping are always on time and available whenever needed. The Activities provided from Balance Classes to Seated Volleyball, Swimming etc. Tiffaney the Manager communicates and gets back to me whenever I have any questions. Its just such a great place filled with great people who care for our loved ones. I am truly grateful to have this place in Monterey!

My father has moved into The Park Lane. It's a beautiful view. People are happy. The food's very good. It's a real restaurant where you can order. They have volunteers that come and greet you and welcome you. I think it's a lovely community. And my father is settling in. It was a week yesterday, so it's pretty impressive because it's scary to put your parent in a home. I tried their food, and it was good. My father is very picky, so that was the most important thing to him. He just wanted not to hate the food. And people are smiling here, and there are also people in independent living, so it's a nice mix. They have a ton of activities. They have poker, lectures, symphonies, happy hours, puzzles, and Rubik's Cube. They have everything, but my father isn't feeling well and hasn't participated yet, so we're going to do it together. They also have a beautiful outside area. They have a lot of staff, and they work very hard. The staff are lovely and patient. We've only been there a week, but it seems very clean and looks like a hotel. They clean this place every week.

The facility was very clean. They had activities going on for the residents there, which was nice to see. The dining area was clean and organized. They showed me the outdoors that they have available to them. They have different rooms where they have different activities that they perform for the residents, which was also nice.

I didn't like The Park Lane. It was clean. I just didn't feel very good about it, so I didn't pay much attention. I just went through. I interacted with one person, and he was OK. I thought it was safe. Memory care was on the fourth floor. They had lots of bars because everyone had a balcony. They had bars to keep them from falling or things like that. I'm a person that deals with energy, and I didn't like the energy of the place. I saw a few people watching TV. There was a separate room for activities. The place looked nice.
