My mother moved into Keepsake Village at Greenpoint. The people are very nice, and they also go the extra mile and get us certifications. So that if there's a problem that they can take care of there instead of going to a hospital or a rehab, they'll do it. She doesn't have to move around from here to there. They do exercise, music, arts and crafts, they have something going on most of the time there. They say she is eating well. She's visiting with the other residents. Her room is beautiful, it comes with a bed, a dresser, and a nightstand. Nice big bathroom, a pulled string in the bathroom and by the bed. She's got two double windows. So, she's got a lot of light that comes in. They show movies and they have popcorn and movie times, and they have snacks. They have breakfast, snacks, and then lunch and then snacks. And in between, they're doing activities. There's always something else to drink or eat in the kitchen, all they have to do is go and ask for it.

The staff at Keepsake is wonderful! My Dad has been a resident for 11 months at this point. He has had a very sharp decline in his Alzheimer’s progression since moving in AND the staff has had to contend with COVID-19. Despite both of these things the staff continues to be upbeat, friendly, and efficient with the residents. I had originally wanted a single room for my Dad to give him privacy but we encountered a health situation that required him to move in ASAP and a double room was what came available first. The Keepsake team worked carefully to pair my Dad with an appropriate roommate. The guys hit it off quickly and would often be seen taking walks through the hallways together to get exercise. The room is always clean and neat and the bedding is always fresh. Plan to supply everything for the room just like you would for renting your own apartment. Towels and linens, light bulbs, etc. They have furniture available. Each resident would get a bed, nightstand, chair, dresser, and lamp. But you can have those swapped out for you loved one’s own belongings if you prefer. Bringing my Dad things from home just made him more concerned about his stay not being “temporary” so we stuck with the provided items. When writing this review the field asked “what are things you would have liked to know?” So I’m going to take a second to educate. Be appreciative of the people who care for your loved one. They work diligently and often thanklessly at a very difficult job. With dementia our loved ones often don’t know to say “thank you” anymore which means that it’s even more important for you as the family to show your appreciation. These team members provide exceptional care for our loved ones in exactly the way I myself would care for my Dad if I could. I am grateful for the Keepsake staff every day.

Our father suffers from memory loss, dementia and depression. Before becoming a resident at Keepsake, he also “wandered” From our home and needed to be constantly monitored. My mother was quite nervous about putting him ‘in a home’ but once she toured the facility and met some of the people and saw how nice Keepsake Village and the people who work there were, her concerns were lessened considerably. They do a wonderful job on a daily basis and keep my father calm, happy and engaged which is very difficult to do! Trust me - we tried! They treat all of the residents with respect and love. There are many daily activities or some type of distraction to help keep Dad at ease. With Covid-19 and all of the lockdowns, they have done a wonderful job (Herculean) of keeping Dad happy and engaged. During this difficult time, they have offered FaceTime or Skype calls to keep family members connected. Between all family members, we probably have 3-5 calls a week and the cool thing is that the resident has someone with them (an aide) during the call to connect, work the technology and ensure that all goes well, the resident is doing okay and hearing everything. Again the entire staff is incredible and to be commended for all the love they show the residents! Even during this difficult time, I know Dad is safe, kept calm and engaged, and is in loving hands.

With ALZ we knew a care facility was in our future for my Dad. He helped his own Mom into one so we knew that this is what he would want for himself, too. We were working on trying to get my Dad to go to an all-day program when he had a fall that resulted in the need for immediate 24 hr care. Fast forward! How soon can he move in? I had visited a number of facilities and found a few that I really liked. Keepsake’s proximity to my own home (within walking distance!) was a definite plus. Also it’s right off Rt 81 for other family members to be able to conveniently come visit. Being right on Onondaga Lake makes for beautiful sunset drives to take my Dad to the park, too. And I felt very comfortable with all the team members that I talked to each time I visited. It was an easy decision! Here we are 10 months after my Dad has moved in and he is healthy, engaged, entertained, and safe. Plus he has times of happiness there, too! That’s always an unexpected plus when dealing with ALZ. He has been much more relaxed and personable since starting the wellness program. Exercise, especially for someone who had been so active, is very important! I also cannot say enough good things about all the team members who work at Keepsake. I feel confident and comfortable that the team is giving my Dad the same care - or better! - than what we would be able to give. I can say that with certainty. I have cared for other family members in this way before. Not only is it physically taxing but it wrenches your soul emotionally, too. With Dad living in such a terrific facility we are able to take some of that emotionally wrenching sorrow out of the experience. Our time with him is able to be filled with laughter and enjoyment, or just sitting contentedly together. We have been able to discover simple joys in our changing relationship and have been able to build on those rather than getting deeper into the quagmire that can be found with at home care. Keepsake’s team does such a terrific job especially in their hygienic care of their residents. My Dad is always clean and comfortable. He always has on clean clothes and his room is always clean as well. There have not been any skin issues or sores or anything that could be concerning on my Dad himself. The team lets me know when personal care supplies seem to be getting low so that I can bring more over as convenient rather than a situation of “hey we ran out can you bring it now?” The leadership teams also works hard to ensure open and honest communication. There are well documented processes in place for complaints or concerns though I have never had to use any of those processes. Any time I have had even a question I can dash off an email to the right person and I know I’ll receive a quick reply. Everyone loves to be appreciated and I’ll be honest I get a really big kick out of how effusive everyone is in their own appreciation of our family for the snacks and lunches and treats that we send over to the team regularly. Every time I am there at least two or three team members seek me out to say thank you. I love, too, that they share this gratitude with my Dad. Even though he doesn’t understand on a granular level I am certain that a part of him still feels warm and fuzzy when someone tells him how much they enjoyed this treat or that. I have so much appreciation for the team at Keepsake and we always want the team to know how very grateful we are for the exceptional level of care that they give my Dad and all of their residents. Thank you, Keepsake, for helping us to preserve our relationship with our Dad!
