They came to be very on top of things, medically. Things don't get pushed to the side - so to speak. Hillcrest Memory Care is probably the best place we've had him in.

Hillcrest Memory Care looked like a secure facility. They didn't have the memory care room separated from the other people there. So just regarding my mom's safety, I didn't feel comfortable with that. I'm sure it's a nice place, but I just didn't feel comfortable placing my mom there. The staff seemed very friendly answering my questions and very attentive. She knew all the different residents' names there and stuff like that. It's a good atmosphere. The room seemed larger. The staff showed me a shared room. It would be two people sharing a room, and there are two separate closets and a shared bathroom. It was very open. It opened up so that they have their own private courtyard patio, and that was nice. They seemed to have a lot of activities. They have a separate area at the back of the facility, so if your family wanted to get together and have a birthday party, you're kind of separated from everybody else. It's a large dining room and you can watch movies and they had dancing going on. They have a lot of different social activities. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They showed me a menu, and it seemed to be a good mix. I asked the staff about vegetarian options, and they would be accommodating with that, too.

Hillcrest Memory Care reminds me too much of a mental institution. When we went there, there was nobody there. We got a tour from the janitor who wasn't that knowledgeable, and was able to show us the rooms and apologized that the person we were supposed to meet wasn't there. I drove from Concord to be there, so I wouldn't recommend Hillcrest to anybody. My first impression was No. There was nobody at the desk, there were two employees in the back office, and the general meeting area was nice. It was clean, but the atmosphere just didn't feel right. There needs to be staff interacting with the residents, instead of them just wandering all over the place. We didn't see any staff, all we saw was the janitor. The rooms weren't bad at all; they were clean, tidy, and large. Depending upon what somebody is looking for, I don't think there's anything they can improve upon on the rooms themselves. The rooms look nice and the bathrooms look nice. They should improve the atmosphere. I understand it was a weekend, but most of the residents that were awake were kind of wandering.

One thing that is really needed is more knowledge about early onset Alzheimer's, it seems that nobody could manage him and it was very hard on our family and hard on him.
