If someone is truly independent then Heartlands is fine, I would not recommend subacute- not enough staff, basically a nursing home. When my mom required more assistance I hired a caregiver to have one on one care which was very expensive but gave me peace of mind.
My loved one says she likes the place. However she wishes the dining room was closer to her room so didn't have so far to travel. Because of the distance she only eats one meal a day at the dining hall. She likes the large room. The other place she stayed had a washing machine and dryer in her room....

Having several medical issues, I want to live in an environment that provides safety and security. I find those things at the Heartlands Village at Ellicott City. Our Executive Director is very involved with the residents and tries to provide as much assistance to us as possible. He has been highly effective in keeping us safe from COVID-19. My family and I are very appreciative of this. I have only had a few questions for him about various matters and he is always prompt in his responses to me. He tries to be available to all of us as much as possible. The staff is remarkable in that they are very, very pleasant and attentive to the needs of the residents. It is such a pleasure to pass them in the hallway and always be greeted with a smile. They are happy to assist us with any issues. The residents are also very special. Again, it is a pleasure to see them too during the day and be greeted with pleasantries that come from the heart. We truly are a loving and caring family here. The staff tries hard to provide entertainment for the residents. We have many activities available to us ~ we just pick and choose the ones we would like to be involved in. My favorite? Daily Catholic Mass in our Chapel. It is very rewarding to attend. I always feel blessed that I can be a part of it. The only issue I have living here, and which I feel needs improvement, is the preparation of the food. The quality of the food is very good and always fresh ~ it just doesn''t taste as it should. I don''t look forward to mealtime and often prepare them in my own apartment. The kitchen and dining room staff work very hard though and are very pleasant and attentive. It is a wonderful place to live. Maybe not perfect, but then, which are?
