My father was here for a very short time. When he went, I was strongly against his being there but it was best for everyone and he was okay with it too. Before going, his health had taken a turn for the worse and he needed someone with medical/healthcare knowledge to have their eyes on him daily. I was at peace knowing he would have that. We visited regularly and on days when we could not make it, I would call and check on him. It almost never failed that when I called to check on him, I was met with disdain. They never wanted to speak to me. Family was not allowed inside and you had to call to schedule a time to visit with your loved one. After a few months, I called to set up a time to come see him and they told me that he was sick and not able to see anyone. They assured me he was well, just not able to come outside to visit. I called for days in a row and was told the same thing each day. Finally, I called and was very upset about not being able to see him. I asked them if I could speak to him on the phone and they told me that they would see if he could come to the phone and they took my number down. I did not get a phone call back that day. The next day, I was at work when an employee at Cordova Health reached out to me privately on Facebook Messenger and told me that my father was very ill and that she wanted me to know. At this point, I was furious and scared. I called them and told them that I was on my way to see my father, regardless of their protocol and that if I was not allowed inside then he was coming home with me. They agreed and we hung up the call. That very day, my father was taken to Brookwood Baptist Medical Center with serious health concerns. He passed away within days of his hospital stay. The doctors at the hospital told me that the issues were neglected too long, and they tried their best but he was too weak. I have no doubt in my mind that the nursing home dropped the ball. I wish I could turn back the hands of time and demand to see my father earlier than I did. However, when medical professionals tell you he is fine, you believe them. Never will again. Thank you so much to the employee who reached out to me, although it was far too late. I hope this message makes it to someone who may be considering using the facility for their loved one, please don''t.
