My summary: Coastal View Employee of the Year: Loree the social worker. She''s the best, and made all the difference for my dad (and me!) Coastal View Nurse of the Year: Ariel. He is awesome, and makes a difference. CNA of the Year: Zurrah. Compassionate and expert care. Watch out for: The night staff. It''s a whole different ballgame at night, and there should be cameras in every room for night-time. I''m not a fan. The Details: My review of Coastal View Healthcare Center in Ventura, CA has fluctuated. From four stars to one, to two, then finally, three. Let''s face it. Nursing homes are all sub-par, unless you happen to be loaded, and can afford premium care. Coastal View Healthcare Center has been my dad''s home for a couple of months, and the care level has hit every point from great to terrible. If you have a loved one here, you''ll have to really pay attention, and advocate for them as much as possible. (You''ll have to do that no matter where they are.) My dad reached a health peak a few weeks ago where he was strong and clear-headed, but because of a bed sore he acquired at Coastal, he was not allowed to return to his beautiful assisted living apartment. The bed sore was a result of not turning him enough or keeping him clean enough. To my mind, the bed sore never should have happened. He has since greatly deteriorated mentally and physically after his peak. He was just there too long, as bed sores can take a month or longer to heal in non-optimum conditions. My "rescue" of him is signing him up for hospice care will will occur after I can move him back to his own apartment, but because he contracted Covid two weeks ago, he''s still in isolation. That''s the only thing holding him up now. There are some very good doctors there, but doctor care feels a little sparse to me at Coastal. Most of the work is handled by the nurses and CNAs. The night staff does have a few good people, but overall the night staff is fairly terrible. I''ve been there at night and witnessed it myself, and I have called at random times during the evening over the course of my dad''s "stay." for various urgent matters; I found the lady answering the phone at night to be surly and un-empathetic, and totally resistant to diplomacy or friendliness. I have seen the night staff ignore patients screaming for help, and I witnessed a patient completely covered in fecal matter not get any help for 30 minutes until I intervened and demanded it. That place is just hell at night for some patients, and some patient''s urgent needs are ignored for too long. They really need to do better! By the way, if the patient is getting opiate derivatives for pain, they''re going to need LAXATIVES, and Miralax just doesn''t work very well. They need to seriously overhaul their responsiveness to this. Patients need faster access to Dulcolax, and Magnesium Citrate. Nurses and CNAs need to really practice empathy over eye-rolls. I literally saw two healthcare workers getting very frisky with each-other instead of dealing with patients. I let the administrator know. Hey I''m totally in favor of you having a love life, but you need to straighten up and get professional at work. It''s better during the day. Healthcare workers have a hard, sometimes impossible job, and it''s one of the hardest jobs in the world. Coastal View is okay. Great at times, not so great at others, but I think they''re probably about at the pinnacle of what you''re going to get in today''s healthcare/insurance/greed market.

Do not send your loved ones here they will let them die and not tell you. My grandma was sent here after hip surgery and they told us she’d only be there for two weeks while she recovered a bit. After two weeks they would not allow her to be released due to an open investigation. When we would call to talk to her they were “not available” , “she was sleeping” or “they would call me back” once they got a chance and of course they never got around to that. Today after almost two months my grandma died there and 5 mins before she passed they told us they had been doing cpr for 30 mins and that she had been choking. They should have called as soon as they noticed something was wrong not wait until the last minute because of their negligence my grandma passed away.I just hope no one ever goes through this same experience. No one deserves to die feeling abandoned or un communicated from their family. Please don’t send anyone here.
