Coastal Heights is independent living, but they have things that you can add. They have a home health agency that has an office there. Their physical and occupational therapists see the patients there. They've got about 145 people and it's a younger population. This was more well suited for my sister as far as the age of the population. They have one-bedroom units only and they're about the same price as the efficiency at the other place, which is $4,200 approximately. They're nice, but not as nice overall as far as cleanliness and stuff like that. The problem with Coastal Heights for us is that some of the activities are on the third floor and my sister has phobias about elevators, so she wouldn't even utilize their beauty shop, their puzzle room, or their movies. The staff seemed very nice. We did interact with some of them there. The menu wasn't as extensive as the other place, but the dining area was very nice. They had transportation and internet, but you have to pay for your own electricity, which they said is about $40 a month. They had an outdoor space with chairs, like a patio.

l did rate my overall experience as 4 because I made wonderful friends with fellow residents in the year I was at coastal heights. The cleanliness was not consistent. They had a lot of staffing issues and there were weeks that our apartments were not cleaned. Also the dining room was always dirty. Because they allow pets, sometimes there would be pee in the elevators and and even incidents of feces mishaps in the hallways. I did rate the staff as a 5 for friendliness Because they were. Especially the front desk staff. I rated quality of care as a 3, when I went to see the apartments for rent I was told that it was independent living for active seniors. Once I moved in, I discovered that not only were there a number of residents with memory issues who would wander around not being able to even find their rooms, but there were residents there on hospice and could stay there till they passed. Needless to say, I didn’t sign up for that. Food I rated as 2. The quality was overall not good. Many of us ate a lot of their hamburgers and hot dogs because there other food was not so good. The activities were okay. The happy hours every afternoon and entertainment on Fridays gave us the opportunity to mingle. That was fun. Value for money I rated as 3. With the cleanliness an issue and the food not too good, really was a problem. I was willing to overlook all that just to stay with my friends, but my rent was increased $[removed] a month after only being there a year. I couldn’t afford to stay. It really made me sad. I miss interacting with other seniors.

I like everything about Coastal Heights. The facility was nice, clean, and well appointed. The woman who toured me around was very kind and knowledgeable. It's in a great location. They had a lot of great amenities. The individual apartments were nice and a good size. The dining area was lovely. I only looked at the menu briefly, but I liked that they had a set menu every day that changed. Then they also had a list of things that are always available.
Read moreI think that Coastal Heights Senior Living does a great balance of independent living and care assistance. And that also have a great variety of daily activities to keep my dad engaged.
