I would not recommend Brookdale Westerville to anyone looking for a Memory Care facility for their loved one. The facility was not prepared to handle my mother in law's level of acuity when she arrived. They did not teach her how to use the pull cord in case she needed help, which resulted in her trying to get out of bed on her own and falling. The staff regularly did not carry or have turned on the device that alerts them when a resident has pulled the cord. We also had to fire the hospice that Brookdale recommended to us because they were incompetent. Again, I would not recommend Brookdale Westerville.

I toured Brookdale Westerville for my mom. It's very small and has a very home-like feeling, and very welcoming. You have to be careful though when you pull in, because there is a living facility that's for those with developmental delays. That is the first part of the driveway. You have to actually drive to the rear to get to Brookdale itself. I was impressed with the fact that it seemed as if the staff knew each resident by their name. The residents seemed very comfortable with their interactions with the staff, at least what I witnessed anyway. They had a community room where they were doing, I guess, like a Bible study. And they have a very nice outdoor patio area for the residents where there's old country time rocking chairs and a garden area. It's just beautiful. I like the way the memory care was laid out. It's simply a different door you go through, and it's not marked too dramatically different from the rest of the facility, so it doesn't make you feel like you're walking into another part or a part that's segregated from the rest of the facility. I really like that.

The facility is dirty, dark, depressing, and in need of upgrades. They are greatly understaffed. Staff does not have the time to do all that is required of them. Good employees do not stay long. Residents that have a good mind do not like the director. He spends a lot of time out of the office or playing his guitar. Complaints are ignored. Most residents dislike the food. Dietary needs are ignored. Rooms are not cleaned because of staff shortage. Maintenance is extremely slow. Some mail boxes are not secured. There is theft. They do not honor their own contracts. It does no good to contact the corporate office. Nothing changes. They have no problem increasing the rates. The last increase was over 18%.
Read moreThis was an older community. It was in disrepair, and not clean. The gal that worked with us was good, but she had little to work with.
The food is excellent. The billing has been a disaster though and the maintenance is not timely either. The staff have been pretty good with communication with the families.

We had a good virtual tour at Brookdale Westerville. They took us around the facility and showed us not only an available room, but what the exterior of the building for that room would look like, patio and all. They introduced us to some staff that was available. It seemed to be a little smaller of a facility, and we were just looking for more residents for our loved one to be able to interact with.
