The community has nice and friendly people. It seemed that some of the staff was geared towards some residents that were less active, and our loved one was more active. This caused frustration for the family as some of the caregivers wouldn't work with the more active residents.
We chose Brookdale Valparaiso because the covid cases were low. The rooms here are ok, she does have a private room. Overall, I would recommend to others looking.
I would highly recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The staff is available to speak to if I have questions or concerns about my loved one. The community is extremely clean. They always have some type of activity going on and they provide a calendar of events.

My mother has been a resident of Brookdale Valparaiso Memory Care for over 4 years. I have found the staff to be very compassionate and helpful in her day to day care. During the COVID lockdown, the Executive Director emailed weekly updates and kept us apprised of how my mother was doing and shared communications/updates from the State, which I found to be very helpful. They did an excellent job of making sure families could continue to see and talk to their families via Facetimes. Zoom meetings were also held to give the families time to address any questions or concerns. We feel we made the right facility choice for our mother. We know she is being well cared for and she is in a safe place, which gives us a sense of peace.

My mom has never participated in any outtings, I'm not sure why she wasn't included in any of them. My only surprise was how the rate would change. From providing gloves for staff, wipes, briefs, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, if she needed a lift to help move her out of bed. If she needed help feeding herself. And the hospital doctors didn't have an issue with sending her back with such restrictions even if we were confused with the new restrictions because she would be eating just fine at the hospital. So all these "new" personal care rates kept going up and up. But I was put at ease by the admin. Of the home that my mom's personal care rate could only increase another $213 a month until she would be maxed out. I am not happy about this act. It added an additional $1,200 a month. While being fed, 4 to 6 residents sat at a table to be fed by 1 aid. So you know my mom's food was no longer warm when it became her time to eat. It's a business to make profit at our loved ones expense.
