Highlighted on Avalon''s website, the slogan boldly declares, "AVALON SPRINGS HEALTH CAMPUS - Where Family Comes To Live." Thus, when considering options for my loved one, the appeal of a 5-star facility with a dedicated and supportive staff initially piqued my interest. However, my initial enthusiasm quickly turned to disappointment as the harsh reality unfolded. Contrary to the commitment of providing a warm and caring environment reminiscent of "home," Avalon Springs appeared more like a business driven by profit, lacking genuine concern for its residents. Once accepted, the clock starts ticking with a predetermined 20-30 day treatment timeframe. At the end of this period, families are confronted with the dilemma of either prematurely sending their loved ones home or bearing the burden of an exorbitant $10,000 per month, a cost not covered by insurance or Medicare, for a transition to "assisted living." This tight timeline leaves little room for the authentic healing and recovery of a loved one, burdening families with a significant financial dilemma. The management''s approach to Medicare coverage exacerbated the situation, failing to genuinely assist patients with their care. We were not seeking a more permanent "assisted living" solution for our loved one; rather, we wanted them to be given the opportunity to heal and return home to resume their life! My apprehensions went beyond administrative and financial matters; they also encompassed the staff''s lax handling of reviewing and managing my loved one''s medication. The lack of which resulted in unnecessary prescriptions, including laxatives, leading to distressing complications made worse by the unresponsiveness of staff during emergencies. Instances of uncontrollable bowel movements, delayed cleanup, and unsightly rashes and sores further underscored the neglect of residents'' basic needs. Housekeeping standards were subpar, with unsanitary conditions such as fecal matter in the bathroom, stained bedsheets, and spilled food left unattended for days. The response time for assistance was disappointingly slow, leaving residents in distress for prolonged periods. The facility''s response to my loved one’s COVID-19 case was equally disconcerting. While I acknowledge Avalon cannot be blamed for the contraction, the lack of urgency in providing medical care was alarming. Despite my explicit request for a medical doctor''s examination due to severe symptoms, the promised medical attention never materialized. This negligence, especially considering the historical impact of COVID on elder care facilities, was deeply troubling. Meal service added to the litany of disappointments, with consistently cold servings and meager portions more suitable for a child than an adult. The disregard for nutritional needs compounded the overall dissatisfaction. Only after directly reaching out to the CEO and Board Member of Avalon''s owners, Hancock Health, did my concerns receive the attention they deserved. Unfortunately, it took a great deal of effort on my part before receiving the attention my loved one needed. In conclusion, if prioritizing your loved one''s well-being and receiving attentive, urgent care is crucial, I strongly recommend exploring other facilities for skilled nursing care.
Read moreAvalon seemed really big. It was very nice with a whole building for memory care. I feel you would get lost in the general population as it is huge. The Medicaid beds are only in the general population, even if you have memory care needs.
After having experience at other facilities with other family members. Avalon Springs cannot compare. the BEST! Beautiful environment inside and out. Very caring staff that meet the needs of residents. Not a lot of "call button" wait time - prompt help. Rehab staff is outstanding!
I have been to 3 REHABS. This is by far the best. I left one to come here. Best staff ever.
I was here for two months and everyone was so helpful with my therapy. They were very patient and caring. If I ever had a need for therapy I would always come back here.
