From The Community
If you or your loved one would prefer to enjoy a vibrant and fulfilling retirement rather than one spent watching sitcom reruns night after night, look no further. Brookdale Melbourne in Melbourne, Florida, is an assisted living and memory care community designed from the ground up to provide seniors with the retirement they deserve.
Because our team handles all the household chores, you can spend your days wandering through the beautifully landscaped grounds, gathering with your book club or hosting your grandchildren for afternoon tea (or cookies and milk!). We’re conveniently located near all kinds of shopping, dining and medical facilities, so you can easily access just about anything you need in just a few minutes.
But you don’t have to leave campus to make the most of your days here — especially since we’ll take care of the cooking, cleaning, yard work, laundry and more. You’re more than welcome to design your schedule, invest in your favorite hobbies, or discover new skills. But you can also take a look at our recreational campus calendar if you need a few ideas on how to spend your time:
-
Attend morning fitness classes
-
Show off your skills in trivia and board game competitions
-
Go to Bible studies
-
Take enriching art classes
-
Go on nature walks
-
Make new friends at happy hour socials
If you have a loved one joining us in memory care, know they too will enjoy a full and active life. Through our Clare Bridge program, they’ll participate in six planned activities per day. Each one is designed to help them maintain their current skills and feel a sense of belonging and purpose. And if they need any help throughout the day, our team is here to offer them gentle guidance, reminders and a friendly face.
You never have to worry about quality care when you’re here. Since we work together before you arrive to create a custom care plan that’s right for you, you get to choose how much, or how little, help you need. Our staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to be alerted to an emergency. But we’re also more than happy to lend a hand with things like bathing, dressing, managing medication and more.

The residents at Brookdale Melbourne seemed very happy and content and they were interacting with each other. Simone was fantastic. She deserves kudos. The building wasn't the newest that I've been in, but Simone was able to go over the emergency procedures with me very clearly and concisely for evacuation in case of a hurricane because we're in Florida. The residents were outgoing. They all spoke to me. It was pet friendly. I got to meet some of the pets and they were fantastic. The residents had an herb garden that they worked on together. A lot of the residents were watching a movie when I went through it. They just seemed like a cohesive team as opposed to individuals living in a facility. They seemed like a family and that's what struck me the most about that facility, and it was comfortable and real. It was like home. You didn't get an institutional feeling from it. I met with the activities director. She was facilitating a movie in one of the common areas. There was a gathering of residents, and they were all engaged. I would give the facilities director a high rating, too. What I saw there that I didn't see in any other place was they had a computer set up in one of their common living room areas. It had a large TV and they were free to use a computer if they needed to or wanted to. Simone was very informative. She broke everything out very clearly and concisely. She gave options and suggestions and that is so very much appreciated. When my mother does become receptive, I would probably definitely look there again. They had a variety on their menu. I loved it. It didn't look brand shiny new, but it looked comfy. They're undergoing some remodeling in some rooms, so that takes away a little bit from the appearance. There was new carpeting.

My mom is now in Brookdale Melbourne, which is a smaller community than the others I've toured. They had single and double-occupancy rooms, and they don't have kitchens in the rooms. They had a large dining area and an enclosed courtyard with a gazebo and a garden. They have a large living room area or TV room, they had a couple of activity rooms, a pool table, and an exercise bike. They do cards, bingo, puzzles, and they have a yard sale. My mom enjoys these activities. It was a little rocky at first, but now they have a new kitchen staff, so things have improved. I haven't tried the food but it looks OK. The staff members have all been very helpful.
Read moreBrookdale I liked at first, but am glad I returned for a second visit. Completely different. Residents were just sitting around, in the hallway, few staff members were visible, and there was an unpleasant odor throughout the facility.
I like the memory care unit. It's small, with only about 17 residents, and I love that. Because it's a smaller community, there is more individualized attention for each resident. My family member likes it there, and if I had to go into a place myself, I would go there.
