When my grandparents toured Brookdale Lake Highlands, they felt like they were living on their own. It's an apartment-like setup. The facility looked pleasant and clean. Victoria was lovely. She was super, super sweet. The event coordinator at the location would get with the residents who are there and go over what they like and don't like and make sure everybody feels included. As far as the pricing and everything, we're talking about elderly people here and a lot of them are on fixed incomes, what it would have cost both of my grandparents in a facility like that was just too much that we couldn't afford.

Brookdale Lake Highlands was clean and laid out very nicely. It was one of the smallest facilities that we had looked at, which made it intimate. They had fewer residents there, which is good because it gives a higher level of individual care. I liked that place. The staff was really warm and welcoming. We liked them. The lady who was over the memory care unit had maybe 15 years of experience right there in that facility. They have a computer program that gets the residents to participate. Every facility we looked at, the rooms are pretty much the same. They had suites and one-bedroom apartments. They're clean, and everything is as I expected.

I was just impressed with Brookdale Lake Highlands. I like how they had the facility set up because, in some of the other ones, the memory care was kind of shoved off in a corner. This place is not like that. It was pretty much open to everybody. I liked the rooms and I liked their dining hall too. They gave me a menu for the week and they invited me to come back and have dinner there. The menu looked great. I met the chef too. The staff was very friendly and very open about everything. They tried to assist me and they even invited me back, with my family and kids, to have a meal with them. They followed up with that too.

Brookdale Lake was one of the two that we narrowed the choices down to. We just didn't get a good vibe. It looked like there wasn't a lot of staff, although the rooms were quite large. It's in a great location, but the facility itself looks a little dated. The staff members weren't as knowledgeable as the other place. We didn't see the dining. I think it is the function or the age of the facility.
