The price to live at Brightview is astronomical in comparison to newer Assisted Living Communities. We wanted to move my great aunt to Brightview, but found it to be a bit expensive.

I moved my husband who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s into BrightView Warren in February 2/17/18. In the beginning we were very happy and sang their praises. As the memory unit grew to a capacity of 28 residents, the number of aids did not grow as the same ratio that the residents grew. Thus, I started to notice the care slipping. Personal hygiene was neglected. These residents are afflicted with this ravishing disease, and will not always agree to personal hygiene or taking their meds. One would hope that the proper training, with follow up coaching on a continuous basis of the staff would enhance their ability to work with these residents who do not know what is good for them. In his deterioration, my husband has forgotten to use the phone, which made it difficult for me to communicate with him, especially when i do extensive traveling for my job. I learned about a new Alexa communication device called: Echo Show. This allows me for both of us to see each other on the screen, and talk, and gives us both a sense of security. Within a week of having it, I heard my husband calling for help at 1:30 am. When i saw his calls were futile, I called the main number for home seeking help. My calls went unanswered. This necessitated for me to drive at this hour ( I do have to work) only to find NO ONE available to help. I called the main number, as well as rang the alarm button. Those were all futile. I found my husband, in the effort to go to bathroom fell on the floor and did not made it to bathroom. He slipped on his feces, and could not get up. Without a response to my calls for help, I cleaned my husband, lifted him up from the floor (not easy) and put him to bed. This experience traumatized him. I approached the director through email and face to face. The response was that of denial, and they they had aids on the floor. They would never admit to wrong doing. I insisted on getting a written corrective action plan but never did get one. Finally I was told that the 2 employees that were on duty were asleep and were fired. I was given an ultimatum: either I move him out because they had a waiting list, or I hire a 24 hour licensed care provider. First of all, they do not have the accommodations to accommodate 24 hour care providers. The second was that at $25 per hours x 7 days a work, the cost to me per month would be close to $19,000 (this is on top of what pay BrightView). There is no other patient on the memory care unit that has a 24 hour care - my husband is one of the higher functioning residents. Prior to putting the Echo Show in (my intention was to be able to communicate with him because he has forgotten how to use the phone), I was told that we were breaking the lease because we are not allowed to have cameras. But the Echo devise is not a camera - it is a communication device. But now I realize that I am able to see many things go on. I was told by the Director Susan Bruncati that residents were checked on every hour. This is the furthest from the truth because I have been watching for it. More half the residents living in the memory care unit have had to hire their private aids. If BrightView hired adequate number of aids and paid enough so that they do not all have to have second jobs, and managed well, more of the residents would not need to hire private aids. In conclusion, this place is smoke and mirrors - their are driven by the almighty dollar and do have have any passion for the care of the residents. A word of caution - do not believe or trust any thing they tell you. They lack integrity, honesty and compassion. Would you want to trust your loved in their negligent care?

Brightview Warren is a beautiful, safe, and pleasant Community filled with active seniors and amazing associates. The environment is warm and homey. The residents have great choices for their meals in a sit down dining environment. The Dining servers are attentive and fun. There is always something for the residents to do with a full calendar of activities, trips, and in-house entertainment. I love to see the bonds and friendships made and the good times had especially at happy hour. I couldn’t think of a better place to have my aging loved one reside. Brightview Warren is an excellent example of Active Aging at its finest.

Making the decision to move your loved one to an assisted living facility is one of the toughest experiences you will go through in your lifetime. You know in your heart that assisted living is best for your loved one, but there are so many levels of consideration. In the sea of considerations lies the ‘where.’ My Mom moved into Brightview Warren in 2016 when they first opened. From the moment my Mom and I stepped in, I knew this would be home for her. We were greeted like family. The establishment is much like an upscale hotel rather than an assisted living home. They have a recreation area, pool table, bar, fireplace and an outdoor lounge. The physical parts of Brighview are just the beginning. The staff is what makes this place. My mom truly felt that she was one with the staff, feeling like she worked at Brighview too. Every member of Brightview’s team went above and beyond for my mom. Toward the end of my mom’s time on this earth, it was very clear to me that the Brightview staff were passionate about people and really gave a thousand percent to their residents. Ursula Gibson, Brightview’s health services director, was in continuous contact with me during my mom’s final days. Every minute Ursula ensured that my mom was comfortable, safe, and had everything she needed. When my mom passed away in early October, Gayla Zieser, Brightview’s director of vibrant living, walked me into see my mom one final time. Ursula and Gayla represent just two of Brightview’s amazing staff of passionate caregivers. Your loved one will be safe and well cared for in Brighview Warren. Thank you Brightview staff for all you’ve done for Evie. She loved each of you. Stay safe - Laurie Torchia
