Having to move our dad to assisted living was super hard decision, but Abby and all her staff at Bickford have been wonderful. They are caring, kind and compassionate. The outdoor patio space is lovely and the movie nights and “entertainment” are also wonderful. Thank you!

I am very pleased with Bickford of Gurnee. My father has dementia and we had been having a very difficult time finding a place for him. He started to wander but he really wouldn''t be happy in the typical lockdown memory care facility. Enter Bickford. They have the ability to keep him safe from wondering, as they have locked assisted living. The best part, they know how to deal with dementia patients without medicating them. We had a rocky start with miscommunication, but once we were able to iron out the issues, both mine and theirs, we are all very happy.

It''s smaller, 1 floor, and more like a home environment. Everyone here is very friendly, and caring. Always willing to help no matter what. They also have art classes, bingo and a beauty parlor, and much more. Even a visit from ELVIS! I knew he wasn''t really gone! Bickford was a great find!

My tour at Bickford of Gurnee was wonderful. I got there and they were doing activities. Abby was the person that I talked with. She took me into a room and she asked me some questions about my father. And then she took me on a tour and I was very pleased. The only thing was it was rather pricey, but I think they all are. But, it was a great experience. The staff was very, very friendly. I'd like to think that this is family-owned and not corporate. She just knew every one of the people that we passed by and she spoke with them. I liked the layout of the rooms and the windows to the courtyard, and they had a courtyard to go out to. It would fit very well with how you would put furniture and stuff like that. They would take the seniors out for activities. They had a string quartet in there yesterday. They would play different games. They had a salon and they had a place where they had church. They had a nice dining room, and they had a van that would take the people out to different places. I liked the place a lot. I felt very welcomed there. The place was beautiful.

I toured Bickford of Gurnee. It's interesting that they called me yesterday and the staff shared a little more with me than she did the first time. I liked the facility. It was clean. I liked their memory care. I like the way it was organized. The rooms were basically around a central activity/community area. I was a little nervous because they were monitoring stuff by a camera, and the cameras were more motion- activated. But my issue with cameras is that there's nobody that monitors it like the other place does. It could take them some time to respond to a camera motion alert. They do it apparently by phone, so there's no central monitoring station. That was my big concern with them. I would have liked to have put my mother there. I like the facility, but it's the camera issue when they were considerably more expensive compared to other facilities that I looked at. They're pretty much comparable with the other place and they have a lot of the same type of activities. The staff said they will take their memory care patients out on their bus and take them for a ride basically, so that they can get out and see what's going on. They especially like to do that during the holiday season when people have decorations out and stuff. When I was there, they were doing some activities. I was very impressed with their facility. The staff who assisted me was very good. She was very outgoing and very honest. She took me around and showed me all the rooms. Unfortunately, in the end, it came down to the value of the dollar.
