The admissions lady told me they had lots of stuff that they don't have, that we wanted for our loved one. That is why, they got a low rating. Don't bring your family member unless you cannot afford anything.
We selected them for the price and the friendliness of the staff.

Avalon Memory Care-Irving was not nearly as updated as the other facility I went to. I was not impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms. They were not dirty, but they were shabby since this facility has been in use for a long time. I walked around the grounds of the facility and they seriously needed to replace sidewalks, the porch, and all that stuff. The people were nice enough though, but I felt like only about 3 or 4 people were running the place and quite a few folks were walking around. All the residents appeared to be clean. There was just one young lady standing in the common area and she was just standing up against the wall, watching everybody, not interacting. I was there during mealtime and it appeared that the food was OK, but I was not impressed with how the meals were distributed. It was about $1600 a month less than the other place, but with what you got from the other place, it would be worth the $1600 knowing that my mother was being cared for.

I truly wanted to love this place. The aides and nurses are very nice…. Nothing against them. It is sooo horribly understaffed. The hallways smell so bad of urine that I gag often. Residents often relieve themselves ( number 1 and 2) in the public spaces and it sits for awhile because understaffed. I have witnessed fights between men(blood drawn), residents with black eyes, and now told about residents who have had multiple broken legs. Not sure how that happens? Again, nice staff…. old faculty…. Bug problems, and I believe a general lack of oversight by everyone. We will move our loved one asap. Also have heard complaints of being underfed. I have heard this from multiple residents. Cannot wait to be out.
Read moreWe have had some issues but are slowly working them out. The medication schedule is adequate. They do lack sometimes on diaper changes. I think that additional training is possibly needed for transfers of residents.
I liked the memory care unit okay here. This is a nice community and it is well staffed but my loved one felt that it was not the right place.
