The staff are good to work with and supportive of my loved one and family. My expectations of a memory care have changed since my loved one has been there. I'm more realistic now. There are some residents who try to conversate with my loved one when they are able to. It would be nice to see more vegetables with the meals that are served to the residents.

I would tell other's, don't go here. We've had several bad experiences here. One time I went to visit my loved one, who has dementia, and they were sitting in the dining room with a plate of long spaghetti. It was not cut up and it was served with a spoon. My loved one has dementia and they tend to walk around. We saw that their toilet was leaking and it took them weeks to get back to us about it. We found out that the toilet was not leaking, but my loved one was urinating on the floor; they were missing the toilet due to issues with their vision. It still took them weeks to check on it, because their maintenance guy was out. They should have checked to see if the toilet was leaking right away. There was a puddle being tracked throughout the community. Not only is that a slip hazard, but it's also unhealthy. They're also supposed to do their laundry, including the bedding every week. I was sitting there when someone came to take the laundry and they only took the basket, but did not take linens, towels, or the sheets off the bed. They didn't do that right in front of me. Most of the staff were mostly on their cell phones as well. They responded to these issues with a brief email and nothing else. One time my loved one wasn't getting the medication(s) they were supposed to be getting. It wasn't a medication error, it was a missing medication. There was a person doing the pill/medication pass, they stopped the director as she was walking by and informed her. She acknowledged it and walked on. She didn't apologize and she didn't show a genuine interest in resolving our problems. After we told her we were going to leave, she just sent an email. She didn't ask if we could sit down and talk about it. She just said, "I know you've had some complaints recently about the toilet, is there anything else?" She didn't reach out any further than that. To receive that kind of response, for the cost we paid, was shocking.

My mom is getting enhanced assisted living care at Heritage Elm Grove. It's beautiful. It just felt more like she was going to an upscale hotel and having her own private living accommodations with her own private living space, her own little kitchen, and private bathroom. They offered all of the amenities that we were looking for. It's a smaller community, so you don't feel like you're getting lost in the system. They have a little kitchen called The Bakery where she could go and have her morning coffee. They also have a hair salon, a movie theater, a little gastropub/cafe area that she can go to either dine in or just sit, and a beautiful courtyard area. Aesthetically, it is very pretty and very clean. The staff is amazing and very receptive to answering the questions that we had.
Read moreIt's a very friendly place and very clean. They were very helpful answering any questions and things like that. The care was very good, and they did everything they were supposed to do.
My mom loved the food that they served and said everyone on staff was very friendly and welcoming to her. My mom is anxious/introverted so she did not participate in activities that they had provided.
