November 10, 2021 I''ll begin with something positive. This building''s ombudsman is now on my contact list. You know who you are and many thanks for you for intervening and truly helping me- including this morning. I agree with the many negative reviews of this imitation of a nursing home. Unfortunately, I''m still a resident here and I''m awaiting group home placement. If you like overwhelmed staff across many discipline- especially nursing, (how scary is that) then this place is for you. If you enjoy a former director of nursing (and I mean very recently "former") who says one thing in front of you, then does another, come here. Case in point- recently the former director of nursing personally met with me and asked me to stop calling outside sources. I told her that I couldn''t agree to that and if I must do this to have my needs met I will. Some residents (including me) have been isolated due to a fungal infection. I learned that the ombudsman for this building didn''t even know this contagious disease had entered this abode. Specifically, I became aware of this when I called Mary Lou Sudders, MSW, ACSW and informed her office of this disease and she (or someone from her office- I don''t know) called the ombudsman who then told me. If you just adore using padlocks to ensure someone won''t steal your valuables, then, by all means, find this place (Bear Mountain/Worcester). If you love ignorant, lazy, insensitive aides, (however there are some honest ones who truly care about patients and are employed here for more than simply a paycheck), you''ve found the right place. If you''re not freaked out by field mice scurrying in patient rooms beneath radiators and down hallways during the winter, so be it. Police officers often warn by-standers to "step aside" in order to avoid trouble. Yet, if you want caring, educated unharried staff members who actually pay attention to the needs and wants of residents, then take the singer/song-writer Dionne Warwick''s advice and Walk On By this place! Lisa Mackres, MSW

I am a patient here. This place is filthy, and there are mice. The shower room is disgusting, and they place the trash bins in there. I have observed them throwing patient clothes away with dirty diapers. They do not use proper hygiene protocol at all. Many patients are half naked, and many are not washed or taken out of bed. Stay away from this place.

A dear friend of mine has been living at Wingate at Worcester for a few years. After transferring from another facility, a great deal of us were hopeful that this institution was going to be able to care for their patients with a higher set of standards than the previous place. Unfortunately that has not been the case. There is a lack of regard for basic human needs amongst management and patients are being denied things as simple as having their teeth brushed, being kept clean, having regular baths, being offered food and being gotten out of bed. This coming from a viewpoint in which family has been involved with the patients’ care. In fact, the care of the patient has seemingly gone downhill since their family has been proactive in demanding basic human rights. It is not okay to take out your aggressions on a patient because their family is holding your facility accountable to standards set by the state that include but are not limited to basic human needs. If you are looking for a long term facility to care for your loved one — I implore you — look elsewhere. This is not the place for your loved one, this is not the place for anyone. Do your research and make sure that you know what you’re getting into before it’s too late.
