Staff were generally kind and engaged. This facility has some wonderful caregivers- the problem is not enough of them. The kitchen staff was wonderful. While my husband was there - the facility experienced dramatic staffing shortfalls particularly on weekends. On several occasions I could not find an employee of any kind on the unit after searching rooms and looking everywhere.

I found the staff at Belmar Oakland to be very caring. My husband had aggressive dementia where he was hard to handle at times, but I felt that they were doing the best that they could. He was on hospice. He had a special bed, of course. He had his own special chair from Hospice. The food was excellent, very good actually. But as his condition declined, he couldn't eat most of the stuff that they brought him because he was beginning to have swallowing issues. The facility was super clean, excellent rooms, cable TV, microwave in his room. It made it very convenient for me to come and stay with him as long as I wanted. They would always ask me if I wanted something to drink, tea or coffee, while I was there. If I had an issue while I was there and the office staff wasn't there, I would be able to contact the nurse and let her know what was going on and if there was anything she could do and she was always back in touch with me to let me know what they were going to advise the staff that was there, and the issue was always resolved. Security in that building is very good. Nobody can wander off/out of the facility. The door is always locked for people coming in and the door is also locked for people going out. You have your own key fob to use so you can get in and out, conveniently. I liked that. I would definitely recommend this facility to others.
Read moreDuring our tour of Belmar Oakland they had more of a hospital vibe (less homey), but they seemed dedicated to caring for higher medical needs residents.
In general it is a fairly good community and I am pleased. The staff communication is fairly well. The residents receive 3 meals a day, they have a general set menu for residents to choose. The community offers activities for the residents like live music.

The staff treat the clients like family. They are very open and communicative with the family and that really helps. They have a lot of good activities, my loved ones does a lot of painting and arts and crafts that she likes to participate in these activities.
