I wrote a critical review of Tryon Estates several months ago. It was posted for a short time but I don''t see it here now. I find that very interesting and somewhat manipulative. Buyer beware (re: Tryon Estates).Be sure to learn about all aspects of this community. Memory care is a cramped area and rooms are double occupancy in 250 square feet (at best). There is absolutely no personal space for individuals going through MAJOR changes in their lives. The administration (Executive Director, Memory Care/Skilled Nursing Director, Social Worker, etc.) knew very little about how to appropriately work with different types of (obscure) dementia. Even after my offer to help them understand (Frontotemporal Dementia) they resisted/refused my input. The Executive Director and Memory care administration (during my LO stay) were very much lacking in their knowledge of, compassion for, and understanding of how to appropriately work with my LO. My LO was "blamed" for her behavior (as they knew nothing about her and did not know how to approach her appropriately). They sent her "away" multiple times (during a pandemic) within the first four months of admission due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of my LO and type of dementia (FTD) she had. My LO declined rapidly due to TE insistence on severe medical management. Upon return from the second "required" medical management stay (5 weeks) my LO could no longer walk, could no longer stand, and could no longer feed herself. When she did return they immediately took her off the medication that was prescribed while she was in the other facility, thus negating their reasoning for sending her in the first place (for 5 weeks during a pandemic). The ED essentially asked us to leave...and eventually we did. Please be sure to ask questions. Insist on seeing ALL aspects of the facility. Interview the directors of each level of care.We never thought we''d leave ACTS or TE but administration (the ED) literally shared with me that she thought "our relationship was unrepairable" (before we decided to leave). The director of Memory Care/skilled nursing was VERY inexperienced and immature (both his approach and compassion were lacking in every way). A very frustrating and difficult situation. The occupational therapist and the activity director and staff seemed to understand our perspective and were compassionate. A new DON... hired prior to my LO return for the second med. management, was much more attentive to the disease and my LO needs unfortunately too little too late (the previous DON was atrocious). I have spoken with corporate about this (on a couple of occasions), nevertheless perspective residents should be aware. This should have NEVER happened the way it did. This had nothing to do with the pandemic. Had everything to do with the fact that the administration (ED and Memory Care administrator and social work) were simply stubborn and unwilling to listen, unwilling to learn, and unwilling to truly understand how to work with individuals with dementia (FTD) and their family. It is honestly shameful. They stole precious time from us and caused added stress to a very stressful situation. Changed our lives and my loved one''s life drastically! In response to comments below, I have shared and discussed some of these issues with corporate in the not-so-distant past. If they wish to discuss things further, they know how to contact me. It is my hope that other ACTS communities do a better job than TE. Nevertheless this community and the administration (the Executive Director and Memory care/skilled nursing care administrator and social worker) in charge during my LO stay were anything but skilled/knowledgeable, anything but compassionate, and were not attuned to appropriate care or care planning. They choose to SEVERELY medically manage my Loved One while they neglected to learn anything about my Loved One, her disease or her struggle. It was their way of "dealing with/restraining" her.

After living in the comfort and worry free environment of Tryon Estates for nineteen years, I believe that we made the right choice for personal happiness. There is not a worry or care that this community has not helped us to get through. It is the best gift we could have given our children. This place is lovely to look at, located in a great area, and serviced by some of the most caring and loving people I know. Never have I regretted this wonderful opportunity. Everything here has lived up to its promise. Thank you. Kaye M.Steele
