Willow Springs Alzheimer's Special Care Center is a very good facility but very expensive. My husband has been there for two weeks. I've been there when he's eating and the food is very good, they serve them like in a restaurant. He's got a very good room, it's very clean and looks just like a home. The building itself is well-maintained, they have a family room, a TV room, and activity areas. The people seem very happy. They have outdoor and garden projects, they entertain them in another room where they can read and do puzzles, and they have a TV room. They have some transportation, like if they had to go to the hospital or something like that. Otherwise, people come into them for things like blood draws, and a nurse is there. But they don't have transportation to go to stores or things like that. Sometimes people go there like they had a car show and people went there so that they can look at the different cars and things like that. There's an area where they go out and they have a hummingbird feeder and they have places for them to sit out like a patio. The activities director told me that this summer they're going to try to see if they can plant flowers and vegetables, but it's not something that they do all the time. It's just a summer activity.

The were wonderful; they were like family, and that was probably one of the most important things to me at that time. I was there every single day for the entire day, up until husband passed. So I attended the activities with him and it made me feel at home. They have a program called SPARK - they had flower arranging, painting, taking care of the garden outside and feeding humming birds. There was a historical program every evening going over the history of different organizations, like the boy scouts etc., it was something to get them thinking. Every morning was started off with the pledge of allegiance, the star spangled banner, and lords prayer. Those were all intended to get them sparked up and moving. They had something different every week. Communication was fine, although I didn't need a lot, but they were always available. I would absolutely recommend Willow Springs to others - it would be my first recommendation.

The staff were super nice people. I really liked the size of the hallways. You could easily pass two wheelchairs by each other and still a person could walk beside the wheelchairs. The rooms were nicely laid out. But they had linen napkins and crystal in the dining hall, and my loved one never appreciated that type of thing. He would not have felt comfortable in that environment.
Read moreWe were not able to go inside the facility due to covid so we just looked inside the windows. We actually had a deposit on this facility, but I started having doubts after talking to some people in the community. The outside of the facility is beautiful and very nicely manicured.

We chose Willow Springs because they had availability at the time that we were looking, and they were also willing to accept my husband, who has lewy body dementia. The rooms here are all shared rooms, and there is plenty of space in them. They do not encourage televisions in the residents' rooms because they could become isolated from activities. They want them out of their rooms participating in things with others as much as possible and only using their rooms for naps and sleeping. I would recommend them.
