Thrive at Jones Farm was OK. The rooms were a lot smaller and had more of a studio layout. It's a little older. The staff were OK. They had a few things.

Once it was determined my mom could no longer live independently, we made the hard decision to move her to an assisted living facility. We visited quite a few places but really felt comfortable with Thrive. Rachael, the Community Relations Director, was absolutely wonderful with mom’s transition and immediately made us all feel like family. The transition was difficult for mom but soon she became involved in the many activities offered at Thrive. We can’t say enough great things about Terrence and Julie, the activities directors. They are outstanding and always come up with fun activities for the residents. Outside of the various pets and other animal visits, my mom’s favorite activity was to collect Thrive bucks and then spend them at the monthly auctions. She would immediately highlight the auction date on the activity calendar each month. After a year at Thrive, we had to recently relocate my mom to a different state. Her departure was a tearful goodbye by all. Rachael, Terrence, Julie, and the entire staff really became family and we could not have had a better experience for my mom in assisted living. We cannot recommend enough, Thrive at Jones Farm!!

I went to Thrive at Jones Farm. Very good tour. The lady who toured me around was extremely nice, and very knowledgeable, and helped me think through the questions that are important and guide my thinking about what's important. I did meet a couple of staff members and had an extremely enjoyable interaction with their staff members. The staff cares a lot about the guests. The outdoor appearance is extremely nice. The indoor appearance is very nice. Very, very clean. Very well kept up. I did look in the activity room and the dining areas. All are extremely nice. So I was very impressed with the overall appearance of Thrive. I thought it was very well laid out.

While my dad’s experience at the first memory care facility he entered was awful and the second place left a lot to be desired, we were horrified to witness the emotional abuse he endured here. Thrive had been our top choice by far when we first began touring memory care facilities back in September. In October, we put down a $2000 deposit to secure Dad’s place on their waiting list, and a room finally opened up in June while my dad was at a rehab center after breaking seven ribs in a fall. We moved him in on July 7, having provided the head nurse with every possible bit of information about our dad that we felt would be important and helpful for staff to know. We also installed a camera — which was welcomed at each of the three facilities Dad lived in — so that if he fell again, we’d be able to see. Agitation in people with Alzheimer’s is not a random occurrence for no reason. It can be caused by pain, hunger, lack of sleep, fear, anxiety, anger — just like for anyone, except Alzheimer’s patients (especially in the late stage like my dad) can’t communicate or even identify what’s bothering them. Instead, they act out emotionally. My dad was in a new setting with unfamiliar people; he was nursing seven ribs that were broken only three weeks earlier; the mood-stabilizing medicine he’d been taking regularly since January had been reduced and changed in its dosage while he’d been in the hospital for his ribs; he hadn’t gotten a good night’s sleep for days in a row; and, as we soon found out, he was severely constipated with a bowel impaction. Any one of those could cause agitation, and he in fact did become agitated enough to where on his seventh day of being at Thrive he slapped the cup of pills out of Nurse Penny’s hand when she went to give them to him. Penny clearly didn’t like that nor did she like my dad, as her actions caught on our camera that night showed. My dad fell out of bed at 3:18 am. He was discovered by a CNA at 3:50, who promptly called for Nurse Penny and waited there for her without saying a word to my dad, who was moaning with pain on the floor. When Penny arrived, she exclaimed sarcastically, “Oh, shocking!” Then one of the two women laughed. Then Penny stood over my dad — who can still hear well — and said in an incredulous tone, “I’m sending him out! This is the third fall today. We can’t keep doing fall after fall after fall after fall, picking these people up! My back’s already hurting. This is crazy! This is unreal!” Penny then alternated between saying she knew Dad would “fight” if they tried to help him get up off the floor and asking him if he wanted her to help him get up (to which he said “yes” every time). No one asked my dad if he was hurt for five minutes (to which he said “yes,” but they never asked him where or to show where he was hurt). He continued laying on the floor with no pillow or blanket being offered unti after Penny called for an ambulance. Once they finally got him lifted up onto the bed, he was left there uncovered in an awkward and no doubt uncomfortable position UNATTENDED from 4:32 until 4:58 when the EMTs arrived. Yes, I have met with the director and head nurse at Thrive and shown them the videos. While they say they have spoken to Penny, she is still working there. I believe that anyone who would treat my father like that — emotional abuse and neglect — has and will continue to treat other residents the same way. Nurse Penny and the CNA who was her silent accomplice are neither caring nor giving and should not be working with vulnerable, elderly dementia residents.

My mother was a resident there. Housekeeping is hit and miss. It seems you have to constantly stay on top of staff for them to do what they're supposed to be doing. Staff talks a good game to get residents in, but once you're in, they don't seem to care. As everywhere anymore they seemed to be short staffed. Food is hit or miss, depending on who the cook is. It seems information family gives isn't provided on residents charts for employees to view, so you have to stay on top of their care and remind constantly inform employees . My advice is for anyone intending to place your family member there, visit the facility on a daily basis to ensure your loved one is being properly cared for.
Read moreThrive at Jones Farm was a little bigger than what my aunt was looking to be in. We saw the memory care, and the staff there was very professional. It seemed clean. The room was a good size. It was adequate. It's very conveniently located.
